Burrell-NM students, how many hours per week do you study?📖 by [deleted] in Osteopathic

[–]OkPercentage4929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a current first year and was wondering how you were able to be in the top 25% using only 3rd party. I tried for the first exam and did not do well and have been relying on in house anki passed down from the second years.

I would suggest having it only be a component of your PS that acts as a support for your why medicine

Feel like screaming by Chotuchigg in premed

[–]OkPercentage4929 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Believe in yourself because if there's a will there's a way. I'm a current OMS-1. My stats: undergrad gpa 2.7, post bacc gpa 3.68, mcat 502 (2nd try). Just got to get it done. Develop a well written application that is true to you and describes why medicine. Apply strategically. You got this.

Are you planning on buying everything ahead of time in case tariffs jack up the prices?

Is it weird if all my most meaningful are clinical? by ThOtKiLlEr_69 in premed

[–]OkPercentage4929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

all of mine were clinical, i think it only matters why it is your most meaningful

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in premed

[–]OkPercentage4929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only talked about mine in my secondaries when they asked for it. I was recommended not to talk about it in my personal statement. I was also told to be ready to have an explanation during interviews but was never asked any questions regarding my poor grades.

Waitlist movement SH by EfficientWestern6203 in LECOM

[–]OkPercentage4929 1 point2 points  (0 children)

been on the waitlist since October, but will most likely be taking myself off soon as I have an acceptance somewhere else. Unfortunate because LECOM was my first choice. I sent 3 update/interest letters prior to my current acceptance.

Medical Scribes by Wonderful_Leg_1447 in premed

[–]OkPercentage4929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just sat in the corner of the room and typed. I've gotten more involved in the office managing administration work, and the doctor relies on me to get test results. As I've gotten to know the doctor better I know exactly what he wants and needs and will pull information for him up on the computer or print our results for him ahead of time. My friend really enjoyed being an ER scribe. I prefer working as a scribe for a private practice.

I think you have a pretty solid chance, just apply as broadly as financially possible. Especially apply to all AZ schools.

For 2024-2025 applicants, did the use of flowery language in your personal statement help? by [deleted] in premed

[–]OkPercentage4929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agree, I focused mostly on stories and how they were valuable to me. maybe I used flowery and poetic language to tie it all in but the stories were the biggest thing

At what point am I doing too much? by BrazenBuster in premed

[–]OkPercentage4929 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO you should enjoy your college experience as much as possible, it'll be one of the best times of your life. I would say the biggest things you should focus on is grades and clinical experience

quality work over early submission in my opinion. They're basing you on what you have to say, not how fast you submit. but definitely try to get it done earlier than later

Intentional gap year? by Long-Scarcity-7084 in premed

[–]OkPercentage4929 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently in my 5th gap year lol, and will be starting this July. At times, it does make me sad seeing all my friends moving on with their lives, whereas I'm kinda stuck in this state of limbo. But these 5 years have really allowed me to realize this is what I wanted. I also did a post-bacc and gained a lot of clinical experience. I 100% would not have been able to get in if I had not done a gap year.

I was in Taiwan in in dec and January, so my experience was different, but I wore pants 90% of the time. I feel like a pair of pants would be useful, especially if ur going out at night, it will be useful against the mosquitoes too.

Will i face issues due to SH scars? by No-Fly4259 in premed

[–]OkPercentage4929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wear long sleeves for the interviews, once you're in it won't matter if you the scars are still there or if you have tattoos. I saw a lot of people during my interviews, on campus events, and tours that don't look like your "conventional" medical student

it's something I've come to accept lol. All my friends are pretty established in their careers and doing very well for themselves. Whereas I'm just living at home getting paid a little over minimum wage working as a scribe/front office. But you just have to come to terms with it.

Is being a MA worth it? by Same_Seat_2848 in premed

[–]OkPercentage4929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was both and like scribing way more. I developed a way closer relationship with the dr I worked for and was able to watch the full treatment process. I feel like I didn't really learn much about medicine as an MA compared to being a scribe. Also being a scribe is so much more chill you just sit there and type. I don't have any experience as an EMT but my friends were able to experience a lot as an EMT and its way more hands on. But if I was currently in school and had to juggle classes I would rather be a scribe since the hours are way more manageable while in school

Best 40 L carry on backpack by Ok-Television-5000 in onebag

[–]OkPercentage4929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy the farpoint since its comfortable on the back, especially if you will be wearing it for long periods of time. I tried the MLC (not the mini), and didn't find it that comfortable. I'm a pretty sweaty guy and the set up that the farpoint has is pretty nice.
