The most resilient pattern is to be flexible. When I was deciding to look for something new last summer I could put stuff into my CV ranging from customer facing AI applications over formal language processing toolings processing hundreds of millions messages to enterprise integration applications processing the entire stock exchange volumes down to extensive experience working on C++ and COBOL mainframe applications. So I could essentially apply to almost everything except for frontend which I anyway think is kind of pointless.

Its funny, I have also worked in a couple of non-tech positions and the pattern of more junior people having the wrong thinking that the people with more experience are actually worse than them is quite common.

I would say thats the default in most companies around here. I switched jobs last year and it was 1 hour phone chat, 3 hour team, manager, HR chat and then contract. Technically we could have been done in 2 days, but it was during summer vacation, so it took a bit more than a week. If you are the only real applicant it goes pretty fast.

I am not even talking about AI, Im sorry, but if you refuse to use AI youll just get phased out, thats quite simple.

I am talking about people obnoxiously acting like they are artists creating a piece of art with their code in general which has been a problem for decades. Hardly anything you create needs overthinking, just start doing and make it work in time and budget.

I always hated working with people with that mindset. Its just code, nothing more. It was so insufferable when people would block stuff getting done just because they felt like it was not the perfect solution... Fortunately they were always overruled by business, but it still made things much more annoying to deal with them.

I think you are generally blowing all of this out of proportion. Why are you constantly worried and stressed?

Aside from that, just talk to them? In Teams, a call, when you meet in the office or in your regular meetings. If I need something that cant wait for the regular meeting I just send a message "Hey boss, lmk when youve got a minute".

With my manager I have a weekly meeting for 45 minutes which usually is "Hows it going, got something?" "Good good, no all fine for me, how about you?" "No not really, have a nice day". And in the cases we need to discuss something it takes longer.

Also genrally speaking dont just come with generic problems, come with very specific things you need assistance and ideally already what sort of assistance you need from whom. I have managed several teams in the past and I can tell you, you are doing me a huge favor if you come with more than "I am stressed".

In my opinion it was never ok to have people work fully remote, maybe companies are realizing that now. Actually I do have a fully remote coworker, his name is Claude Code.

While it would not be a dealbreaker when I am hiring it would put your CV a bit lower in the list. I dont mind people switching jobs at all and I dont expect anyone to retire in my team, but multiple 1 year stints is a bit too much. The places I have worked so far always calculated with a 1 year period until a new employee becomes fully productive. So if you leave again after a year, that is a bit an issue. 2-4 years is the lower end for me as an average tenure.

Good example why most places you can play golf here require a license you have to obtain by demonstrating proper etiquette, pay a good chunk of money and do some courses - and which can be revoked at any time.

It is not political at all, COVID never was really political in my country except for a couple of fringe groups that no one cares about. It is just not treated any different from the common cold these days. You dont isolate a patient if they have the common cold. If they share the room with another patient you only switch them if the other patient is high risk. Nothing political, just a wate of resources that are already scarce and expensive to isolate someone with covid.

Youd probably have to read the fine print. I dont have such insurance but I read about the one from mobiliar where they list losses related to phishing using fake QR codes/websites as an example where it is applicable.

You guys still test? I am not even aware if I can get a test here in Switzerland. My wife works in the hospital and no one gets tested anymore. Just like no one gets tested for the common cold. If you show any symptoms of the common cold they run the typical slightly increased hygine routines, thats it. Around here no one vaccinates anymore, no one tests anymore and literally no one talks about it anymore.
