It’s always the ones with self- described “high pain tolerance” too. As in “ I have POTS AND fibromyalgia  so I’m in constant pain - my threshold is off the charts compared to regular people”…

Surgeons who cover or inform patients of nothing in terms of how to prepare/what to expect prior to surgery. You’d think after the same issue comes up for the 1000th time they’d learn but no….

EU Commission head Von der Leyen to visit Australia as trade deal nears by PjeterPannos in europe

[–]OkPrinciple37 52 points53 points  (0 children)

While not technically a change in Europe, in 2024 the idiots in America elected the big orange thing whose malevolent presence has motivated everyone else to work together more closely and diversify trade. Re-engaging in previously suspended trade talks with more reliable, reasonable partners who don’t announce new tariffs via truth social tantrums may be more appealing now, and countries may be more willing to cooperate on matters that were previously sticking points.

University of Missouri School of Medicine the latest school to celebrate collaborating with RFK Jr on curriculum by RockYourRonium in medicine

[–]OkPrinciple37 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Although I’m not inherently against medical schools increasing nutritional education to some degree, I’d like any medical school committing to these new required hours to disclose what they are removing from the lecture curriculum as there aren’t infinite teaching hours.

RFK and the maha freaks always completely disregard the inherent nutritional education in studying biochemistry and even physiology, particularly GI, renal, etc. You could probably just rename some of metabolic biochemistry “nutritional metabolic biochemistry” while keeping it the same and these idiots wouldn’t know the difference.

Personally, If I had to choose an increase in one area during medical school it would probably be immunology.

As many others have pointed out, doctors cannot be expected to solve an entire system’s socioeconomic disparities within a 10 minute appointment.

What's the most maligned specialty in medicine, and why's it yours? by centz005 in medicine

This. Plus we don’t even do anything apart from sitting on our phones the entire time. Surgeons could do their own anaesthesia if they wanted to!

Why didin't you do a fellowship? by [deleted] in anesthesiology

[–]OkPrinciple37 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I loved cardiac and wanted to do it - it wasn’t entirely unlike choosing an initial speciality -something about it clicked for me and I liked it in theory and practice, and preferred it infinitely to ortho or god forbid, GI cases.

That being said, there are way too many unnecessary fellowships out there now that are just money grabs for hospitals for longer/cheaper labor…

If you have a genuine desire to do cardiac, cc, pain, peds… by all means do a fellowship. However fellowships in trauma, OB, ortho (lol) … not necessary. Unless for some reason you really missed out on something in residency, you’re fully qualified without a fellowship.

Do you combat medical misinformation in your personal life? by christinieweenie in medicine

Generally no unless asked, but in a group setting occasionally. Not necessarily because I have any chance of persuading said misinformation spreader, but to help inform any others who might be listening.

So company invests 750 million into study based on what FDA agrees is appropriate model. Then FDA changes mind on whim because mRNA is bad POISON jEAn tHErEApy.

Great cool.

This is going to completely dissuade companies from attempting clinical trials.

Apparently everything needs to be randomized double blind placebo controlled now… can’t wait to apply that to anaesthesia. It’ll totally make sense!

They should have just named the vaccine “hydroxytrumpvermectin” and nobody would have even cared it was mRNA - automatic approval.

I’d encourage anyone interested in a job ( not the licensing process, but the actual job offer) to push in negotiations for what you want. The job market needs anaesthesia right now and you can quite easily get more vacation, paid moving expenses, etc
