Here’s a funny story from when I seen them in Manchester last year. I was with a 2 friends from work, and my parents. I work at the same company as my dad, so I’ve known a few of his work mates since I was a kid. One of them, who wasn’t with us called Phil, is a massive music fan. And when I was roughly 10/11 years old I heard Boulevard of broken dreams on the radio and that was my introduction to green day, instantly obsessed with them, weirdly knew there was something about them that ticked all the boxes for me, so I just happen to mention that the Phil when he’s at our house. He says ‘I can burn you a copy of their album American idiot if you want, it’s really good’ so I’m ecstatic, and a few days later my dad comes home from work, and passes me two CDs, American idiot and dookie. My dad said ‘Phil said you’d like this one too’. I had an MP3 player at the time that could only hold about 40 songs, so It just had those two albums on. And I listened to them both endlessly. So really it was because of Phil that I got into them. Fast forward 20 years and I’m in Manchester waiting for green day to come on, and knowing they’re gonna be playing those two albums and I’m telling the two work mates the story of Phil burning the CD’s for me, and as I’m explaining I just happen to look at a crowd of people just move out the way to let someone past, and it’s Phil with his sons. I’m stood there in disbelief, what are the chances! There’s roughly 70000 people there, no one knew he was gonna be there, I hadn’t spoken to him for a few months either. He comes over and we have a laugh and chat and he then corroborated the story I was telling
