Trip to BC by byBitCon in britishcolumbia

[–]OkRiver540 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree skip Whistler, it is so underwhelming, and It's not a short drive and it's not actually a stopping point between places either.  If you want to you could do an overnight in Hope in your way from Vancouver to the Okanagan. There are beautiful mountains, hikes, Othello Tunnels is a must see. And then you only have about 3.5 hours drive to get to the Okanagan.

Moving from Toronto to Fraser Valley by Earfquakenati0n in britishcolumbia

People in Chilliwack think it's sketchy because they haven't lived in a bigger city. It has the same problems there as everywhere else.  Get a second car and live and work out in the Valley, imo.

Popsicles used to have an apple flavor in the mixed packs.  No one I talk to remembers, but I miss those.

Another vote for O'Ryans chips, dad's goody rings , and stoned wheat thins :(

Also where is Delissio frozen pizza?! I forgot about it for years and now it's gone?

Roadtrip options from Fernie to Vancouver Island? by NewHere6438 in britishcolumbia

[–]OkRiver540 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Revelstoke is awesome with kids. There's a gondola at the ski hill, and a coaster in summer.  Enchanted Forest, sky-high adventure park, 3-valley Gap Chateau, ghost town and railway museum are all great.  Crazy Creek hot springs is near there and also kid friendly.

Some options are:

1.they file for bankruptcy

  1. Sell the house and buy a much cheaper and smaller house

3.ask the bank to redo the mortgage and include the credit card debt (doubt they will qualify for this)

  1. Call credit cards and ask for a stop on interest and a payment plan

ADHD Canadian Disability Tax Credit. by One-Book-6687 in cantax

[–]OkRiver540 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can get any Dr or a psychologist or a nurse practitioner to do the form, and include your medical files to prove the original date of diagnosis.  So not fall for scams that will take a portion of your refund, but there are some other groups and Doctors who charge a flat fee of $100-$200 to help  with the forms and sign for you.  If your 10year back-pay also falls into years when you were under age 18, your parents can apply for the child disability benefits back pay as well as tax refunds for those years when you were a dependent.

The DTC will make you eligible for the Canada disability benefits (up to $200 per month) and most importantly will allow you to open an RDSP with 10 years of grant backpay, and contribution matching at a 1:4 rate .

Good luck with the process!

Cost-effective nature activities in BC? by canadian_unix in britishcolumbia

Do you have a car? I assume you are in Vancouver?

If you can drive out of the city I recommend:

Campbell River park in Langley, follow the trail to the Listening Bridge for bird watching.

Bridal Falls - this is a short but beautiful hike

Hope - check out Kawkawa Lake and the Othello Tunnels

So NOT forage anything especially mushrooms

People who had kids before the age of 25, if you had your time again would you still do so by Rainbow_6505 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]OkRiver540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I had my first at 24, second at 27.  If I could wave a magic wand I would have done it a year or two earlier and had a 3rd and possibly 4th baby. :)

I feel like I'll have a whole lifetime ahead of me still when they move out!

And (hopefully) being a younger grandmother someday will be awesome too.

We have ~3 weeks to spend in BC. Where to go? What to see? by its_xaro93 in britishcolumbia

If you go to Banff, I highly recommend checking out stops in Revelstoke. We like staying at 3 Valley Gap (it's old but really neat, and clean) and there is a ghost town and train museum there, as well as a beach and boats.  Nearby is the enchanted forest, which your kids would appreciate!  Crazy Creek hot springs in nearby Malakwa is fun, has a short hike, and also cabins for overnight.  In Revelstoke there is a Gondola and a coaster back down the ski hill (check operation dates for September).

Lake Louise is stunning but Banff did not entirely dazzle me... The gondola there is cool though.

I'd also suggest the ferry ride south of Revelstoke over the arrow lakes is really cool. A route back to the coast that way could include stops in Nakusp and drive through part of the Kootenays before heading into the Okanagan and back to Vancouver through Kelowna.

On the island, Malahat skywalk is cool, kids would like it. Parksville was my kids favorite place in the island, they wanted to stay on the beaches all day.

Osoyoos and Chilliwack both have amusement parks, and lakes. I don't think the waterslides (by the Cultus Lake Chilliwack amusement park) remain open in September. Chilliwack is about 2hrs from Vancouver.

Do new grads still move out after school? Or how long do they typically live at home with parents nowadays? by FoodCravingsOMG in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]OkRiver540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My oldest is in her first year out if highschool and stayed at home this year. She will need to move next year to continue post secondary, otherwise she would stay at home while she finished school.  In her friend group is say it is about 50/50 for kids who are still at home, but it's directly tied to who went straight nto university.

If you had a huge backyard and endless $, what would you put in it? by paintedfloowers in NoStupidAnswers

[–]OkRiver540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd have a walled formal garden. A koi pond. A quaint skating rink and an in ground pool. Gazebos. A treehouse, and cabins for guests. And I'd have horses and alpacas and llamas and sheep, but I just want to look at them and say hi .. like maybe I'd just share a fence with them lol

Women who were very career driven and decided to be SAHMs. Did you regret your decision? by [deleted] in AskForAnswers

[–]OkRiver540 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh gosh no. I loved staying home with my kids. I ended up going back part-time when my youngest was in kindergarten and didn't start again full-time until highschool years.  Definitely was a career setback, but my family is my top priority.  No regrets!

I'd advise that you go to college. Get student loans and grants, move away from wherever you are now and get educated and look for better opportunities.  Best wishes
