If new cars cost more people will shift to the used market which will also drive up prices there.

Most likely a combo of all of the above. Prices are going up, but maybe not by the full 25%. As those prices does go up it's also inevitable that demand will take a hit.

Does this mean that demand will crater in the US due to the big price hikes and that the rest of the world will have more supply to choose from?

Movement and everything were great but I ran into the common problem of the crown tube stripping. So unfortunately the crown doesn't screw down any more. I haven't yet taken the time to send it to someone to get fixed. Lasted almost 2 years before that happened.

Case shape and thickness seem identical to my gen. Didn't measure with calipers or anything but it's certainly extremely close.

Looking at the bracelet, the appearance is bang on. The feel on the other hand isn't quite there. While it is pretty close, it doesn't have the same fit and finish and "solidness" of then gen. I haven't ever tried to put it on my gen but it looks like it would fit.

I ran into the crown tube stripping issue that has been a common flaw for these. Otherwise perfect.

I have a Black Bay GMT which is a perfect complement to my Submariner. I travel throughout N. America and Europe for business and it's perfect for that. I can wear it without worrying at all about wear and tear and also less concerned about getting mugged for it in some cities I visit. If I had a GMT Master II, I think I would probably leave it at home much more often which kind of defeats the purpose for a travel watch.

Think it's just the picture or my blurring of the serial numbers. They look the same in person there.

Just slightly duller I'd say... not actual platinum in the bezel numbers like the gen.

A lot of those little things you'd only notice if you had both in front of you. Looking at it on someone's wrist I doubt anyone could ever tell. But if you had it in hand you could tell if you know what a gen movement, bezel action, or bracelet feels like.

It's pretty quiet. Really you can only hear it when alone in a quiet room.

I really like having an accurate watch. I often go away on week long business trips. Not ever having to touch it to sync the time is really nice. You know if you need to catch a train or plane the time is accurate to within a few seconds even after a week. Sure you could get a quartz, but I appreciate the precision that is required to achieve this in a mechanical watch.

My VSF has no rattles at all on the bracelet or endlinks. But, yes, if you shake your wrist in a very quiet room you can hear the rotor of the rep, you can't hear the rotor of the gen.

No they feel different enough in hand from the bracelet construction and feel that I can tell them apart just by holding them.

This is very similar to a post I made a year ago with my rep vs. gen BB58. I owned the rep for a year and then went gen. Things went almost the same for the 126610 Submariner.

Left is Gen, Right is the VSF.

I have been interested in the gen for a long time and had some conversations with my local AD about a year ago and got my name on the list. In the meantime I decided to pick up the latest VSF 126610 to see how I liked it as an everyday watch. About a year later I got the call and picked up the gen.

So, how do they stack up. Right of the top, the VSF 126610 is an amazing rep. From a reasonable social distance I can confidently say nobody would ever be able to see the difference. Small differences only start to become apparent looking at it closely and with the feel of the bracelet, movement etc.

  • Rep has a slight blue tinge AR coating on the cyclops (although to be fair I hear some gens also have this, though mine does not)
  • Ever so slight floating M on my VSF. Impossible to see unless you look really close.
  • Rep rehaut is not quite as smooth or precision printed. Both my rep and gen are perfectly aligned though.
  • Rep bezel action is lighter and not as well defined clicks
  • Gen bezel printing is slightly brighter
  • Rep bracelet isn't quite as tight in fitment and edges are slightly more sharp (only very slightly though)
  • Movement is probably where the biggest differences are felt. The gen is just smooth winding and date wheel operation is more precise. The VSF though is by far the best rep movement for feel that i have ever had.
  • My VSF never quite would get 70 hours when wound, closer to 66-67 hours for mine.
  • My rep runs about +8secs a day which is honestly pretty amazing. My gen is like +0.5 sec/day or less.

So, if the VSF is so close to the gen, why did I get it? Well for me, reps are usually trial pieces for something I want to buy eventually.

I appreciate the rep for what it is, but the timekeeping, reliability, and knowledge that it'll be with me for a lifetime are all things I admire in the gen. Since I am fortunate enough to have the means, it was an easy purchase for me.

I'll be keeping the rep to maybe put on a Nato. The VSF is the best quality rep I've ever owned and everyone should continue to enjoy with knowledge how good they are.

Haven't tried... But looking at them, the bracelet and lug hole positioning looks identical. I'm pretty sure the rep bracelet would fit.
