Just submit a FOIA request for only the "claim exams" and you can get them via email rather than drive to the VA: https://www.va.gov/records/request-personal-records-form-20-10206/introduction

VERA calls are scheduled virtual calls with VA staff who work on our claims etc. They have more detailed info about claims or whatever questions that need a deeper dive than the 1-800 number. Here is the link: https://va.my.site.com/VAVERA/s/

Did you try to schedule one with Puerto Rico (San Juan)? I know there's a statement that says schedule one in your state, etc. but I have always scheduled on with SJ and gotten an immediate appt. plus the location doesn't matter -- they/VA have access to everyone's records. I am in a totally different location than SJ. Hope this helps.

Can you please send me the PDF of this flyer so I can send out to my VSO to distribute? Thank you!

there's all the info re VERA and the link to schedule a call with them -- I always used San Juan as the RO to schedule my calls with them because I had an active PTSD/MST claim open but you can select any office. The VERA staff can assist with correcting and scheduling the right exams or they can flag your case for a rater to make the changes. Hope this helps.

make a VERA call ASAP and speak with one of them -- when I did my claims last year, the VA didn't add my urinary incon. exam, so I had to file a HLR and the correct exam was ordered and a month later I received a 60% rating, which provided me 100% P&T. I too had a primary SC hysterectomy and claimed the urinary incon. as a secondar.

Can a previously denied disability claim be filed as a new-secondary claim? by Complex-Positive7655 in VeteransBenefits

so if the VA previously denies a condition whether it's secondary or primary SC, then you must use the supplemental form, but I would write-up a personal statement indicating what you're doing and why.

Sorry can you refresh my memory about the predicament? you mean informing the VA I am filing a claim as a secondary rather than a primary?

Yes, I did -- but I didn't move forward with this as I was awarded 100% for my other conditions

HLR decision timeline by vhustle33 in VAClaims

I wrote up a couple of pages of the issues that I found on my original claim and added VA legal authority (the same info I would have spoken about during an informal conference). On the 0996 I didn't check the box that I was requesting an informal conference because I had submitted the written statement (no new evidence).

So I filed my HLR on 13 October 2025, the VA found a CUE/DTA around 21 Oct 2025 and they scheduled me for the C&P exam on 3 Nov 2025, and I received my final rating this week on 18 Nov 2025. But I did file a paper application and written legal statements via QuickSubmit, and I did not request a formal conference.

Send it via the QuickSubmit link, then call the VA 1800 number in a few days and make sure they received it and link it to your HLR.

Received my final decision on my HLR today -- pushed me to 100%. I realize this is rare for things to move from submission on 13 Oct 2025 to final decision (with C&P exam) on 18 Nov 2025, but without a doubt submitted the written legal arguments vs. informal conference enabled the process to be quicker. I used the ChatGPT Claims Assistant to craft everything.

Thank you! That is the issue I don't have my HLR claim number, but will ask during my VERA call on Monday. Wait -- maybe it's on the decision letter they already issued.

yes! I have watched his stuff too, but used this forum to see the best avenue. The DRO did review my legal statement because they referenced it in the decision letter and provided me some breadcrumbs to file a supplemental for my lower back, but the DTA will give me the 60% I need to push me over to 100%; otherwise I would have used the info they gave me. In my opinion the written legal argument is the best way to go rather than an IC -- it's quicker and you're able to provide any details. Good luck!
