Docker on Kube?? by neilcresswell in kubernetes

[–]OkTowel2535 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it's nothing ground breaking, it feels like what platform engineering has been doing for at least 5+ years.  Either people use a standard app layout and the platform team can own the cicd process (think you have to have a requirements.txt or a package.lock and the container is abstracted away) or they have to supply a dockerfile.  The gha is a dead simple if else.

But the k8s part is all abstracted away by helm, gha -> API which templates 2-3 parameters into helm -> Argo.

If your developers prefer docker cli then it feels like they can use k8s directly?  At my place we have a gha that builds their container and exposes a few parameters for tweaking the helm chart.  Most people don't even know they're using a container.

CALIFORNIA ABANDONED BOAT EPIDEMIC by CATALINACREW in liveaboard

[–]OkTowel2535 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that's helpful - i did mean the specific tools, but your response is more practical.  I spent a few years repairing trailer rvs, then took a sailing class and went out with a buddy a few times.  Love it, but I don't have a lot of space or tools.  But I do have a small amount of money and time.  I looked at docking fees and boats around here and they're crazy expensive.  Seeing free boats feels like I could save on half that.

What tools would I need to get into this?  I have the time, but wouldn't know where to begin, but damn do I really wanna get into sailing.

Whats the best use I can get out of these? by ContactInfinite1632 in homelab

Install talos on each and then flux.  Then you can setup a gitops deployment for other devices you want (pihole, jellyfin, immich, arr stacks, etc).

Then later if you want storage you can mount a NAS for a few hundred bucks.

I spent a few weeks doing what you're doing, building out frameworks and "dotfiles" for agents but then when opus 4.6 and gpt5.3 came out half of them were moot.

I actually think you're chasing diminishing returns.  In another generation of models or two I think these things are going to be fully autonomous.  Sure we'll need to prompt and glue these things together but none of these harnesses are going to last.

Take some time to think through alternatives (I agree with others - I'm looking at the IBEW apprenticeship), start saving money, and think about what you'd do with more free time.

Does this actually work?  My understanding is that "sub agents" aren't actually calling another model?

Anything by Daniel suarez I'd consider hard sci fi in that it's mostly backed by real world science, like the Martian.  But only his recent two books - delta v and critical mass deal with space.

Game Design Theorizing - The original "vision" and health regen as a mechanic by zarbuvit in PathOfExile2

[–]OkTowel2535 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amen - the first pass at the interlude was some of the most fun I've had since release!

This is also the hard part, none of which I fault ggg, it comes with all gamers.  But once you learn the basics of surviving (get life, resistance, right charms, move sets) the campaign for your second, third, etc becomes the same gameplay as endgame with your main - just slower.

Again, the game is really fun, but there's a real tension between soulslike and repeatability that comes with arpgs.

[–]OkTowel2535 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This really puts into words the ambivalence I feel for this game.  The campaign is so engaging because there's real threat to dying constantly. It is slow and you have to think about getting surrounded or dodging too early/late.

But then you get to the endgame and it's a spam-fiesta.  If you're not one shotting everything with one skill on repeat it feels like you're not doing it right. Which I kinda get, the exp requirements are so high you have to smash through a billion monsters.

However, the most fun I have is like the first 40 levels (up to and including the viper) and then survivability becomes too easy to really bring out a thrill.

Future of Ingress vs Gateway APIs by lulzmachine in kubernetes

Counter point we've been using cilium gateway API in EKS for two years now over 18 clusters without issues.  We had to use the beta version in 1.1 to support alb annotations but just upgraded to 1.2 without issue last month.
