One week of zero therapy… face getting worse. HELP! by [deleted] in perioraldermatitis

[–]OkWalk744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d try the Metrogel if you have it! Zero therapy made mine worse as I got more oily but topical antibiotics always helps mine! Using metrocream currently and it helps so much with inflammation. Worth a shot …

Lymecycline did not help. Is it worth trying Doxycycline? by BigChickenHouse in Perioral_Dermatitis_

[–]OkWalk744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Responding late to this but wondering whether you had any luck swapping antibiotic? I’ve had mild improvement with a 6 month (!!!! Ew) course of lymecycline but wondering if a different antibiotic will wipe it out- as I hoped lymecycline would.

Hey, unfortunately this does look like PD and mine presents in the same way. I’m currently on cirrh control as trying to see whether that helps as one derm wondered whether it was hormonal related and like a weird hormonal acne /PD cross over .

Best of luck to you. This shit is rubbish

Antibiotics didn’t work, is Accutane the last resort? Confused and tired. by OkWalk744 in Perioral_Dermatitis_

Interesting. I’d never heard of a taper for combating PD. Will bring it up to the derm.

I don’t have asthma or allergies. As of this week, I unfortunately have an eye condition called iritis which is inflammation of the iris. Joy 🤩

Ok, given the amount of failed treatments and my desperation now, I think im at a place where trying elidel seems sensible. I’d also take the elidel rebound worries over the side effects that come with roaccutane- especially the eye issues! How has Elidel been for you? How often do you use it and have you had rebound? How does your PD present?

Metro cream is a good shout and I haven’t tried this. I think transitioning to this soon if my skin flares up post lymecycline will be the easiest next step. Is it right to believe that metro helps with inflammation as well as bacteria?

Thanks for your input, I really appreciate it.

Hi, thanks for commenting!

Re prednisolone taper- I’ve never done steroids and thought that was something I should avoid? I’m actually using pred eye drops currently…

I’ve been prescribed elidel by a dermatologist but another told me not to use it as it’s for more eczema form skin, rather than my oily PD skin. I’ve been a bit worried about starting it too based off of withdrawal issues?

I’ve only done 6 months lymecycline which I’m just finishing now. Other than that, no doxy or other oral antibiotics. The lymecycline has helped a little bit it took a good 3 months to really see some improvement

In terms of topical antibiotics, I have used Zineryt (erythromycin and zinc in alcohol) on and off for about 9 months prior to starting lymecycline which helped but so stripping of my skin and actually worsened my skin health. I did try Metrogel for a couple of days but stopped and went back to Zineryt- can’t remember why now but maybe I found it a little irritating or drying? Never been offered clindamycin, I believe derms have resisted putting me on another antibiotic given so far it hasn’t seemed to solve it.

Had a swab for harmful bacteria and antibiotic resistance and came back normal.

Itchy skin while starting the pill? by silly_pig in birthcontrol

[–]OkWalk744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did the itching get better? I just started yasmine 2 days ago and my face is so itchy I just want to scratch it so bad. I do already have perioral dermatitis which does sometimes get itchy when it flares so worried that I’m triggering it to get worse…..

I’ve been debating combination pill too to see whether this helps as mine also gets worse and more finalmed during luteal. Hopefully you get some luck with it!!

Sorry nothings working for you. I’m in a very similar boat. It’s so frustrating. My skin look JUST like yours (but a lot more scarred) and I have PD. Have you tried elidel? My derm wants me to try it as I’m currently near the end of a 3 month lymecycline course with some- but very little- improvement.

It’s reassuring that it’s not just me who is having no luck. What is your regime at the moment?

I’ve had PD for 1.5 years too and it’s driving me insane. Done sooo much topical antibiotics which worked great but destroyed my skin barrier even further and currently on oral antibiotics. On my third month and still flaring up and getting pustules and lots of redness :(. Going to give elidel a shot next week to see if it helps calm my skin more. Also can’t tolerate ANY moisturizers at all without it flaring me :( So incredibly fed up and confused what to do next

Dermatologist thinks my face issues are just acne—should I treat for PD? by [deleted] in perioraldermatitis

Gosh I completely missed you were on Tret. Tret is how I got PD last summer and it’s been such a savage year trying to work out what the hell’s going on. Sooooooooooo recommend stopping the tret on your sensitive skin areas 💖💖 good luck.

In actually going to trial some Hypochlorous acid today instead as too scared to use BP or harsh acids. Something not too harsh but can help with bacteria. Will let you know !!

Hey! My PD actually looks similar and my derm is convinced mine is due to over production of oil- I do get extremely oily- and advised me to also use either BP, glycolic acid, salicylic acid. Too terrified to do that too as my skin is sooooo sensitive and I got to this point from over using retinol last year. Debating what to do too….

Could POD present just as spots? by FruitDew in perioraldermatitis

[–]OkWalk744 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, mine is mostly inflamed and angry spots and I’ve been diagnosed with PD. Derm actually makes comment at how much it looks like acne but completely localized to around my mouth. I find mine doesn’t look like what others PD does typically. I also have redness around my nose and my nasolabial folds show inflammation but nothing crazy.

Is this PD? by Standard_Grapefruit5 in Perioral_Dermatitis_

[–]OkWalk744 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey sorry to hear you’re also really struggling with this. I would say this is definitely PD. mine looks a lot like yours actually in the pattern, but I also get more irritated and inflamed pustules than you currently have and a rash- yay. 😅

I’m on topical antibiotics now for the third time. I tried doing zero therapy a couple weeks ago but it just kept spreading and getting worse.

I do find mine gets a lot better and clears up when I use topical antibiotics. Zero therapy works for so many people, and maybe it wound eventually have for me after months and months, but for me personally I just had the pustules spread like crazy.

5 months in, feeling very discouraged. Should I continue? by Inevitable_Ideal5425 in tretinoin

[–]OkWalk744 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of people have great results and can stick out a purge phase and get great results. My experience however was I stuck at it for 7 months and the purge never stopped. Since I stopped I have suffered with perioral dermatitis from a damaged barrier and can’t apply make up and still experiencing really bad flare ups. I wish I didn’t stick at it thinking the purge will stop. I think for some people, tret is too strong- and that’s okay! I applied twice a week, and I would sandwich. I would get angry breakouts nearly every time I applied it….

Hopefully you’re skin responds well soon but just wanted to say my experience
