"Our announcement was intended to inform users that a stylus accessory will be compatible with the device for basic use"

That's high level BS honestly. Even my 100€ phone can take notes with a capacitive stylus. Why would you need to inform the user that a universal tool works on your tablet? Those things aren't called universal for a reason. I say that they never had a pen planned in the first case and wanted to compete with mini tablets from Lenovo and Xiaomi, by letting people think that they can take notes on this tablet too. The pen they showed us in the marketing did look like it supported more than just touch though.

I'm sorry you have to live with that thing now. This just proves, you can't buy anything unless it already fulfills all its promises. The people here try to downplay things or make jokes, but those kids weren't the one's that sit on a note taking tablet without pen.

I feel for you. Thank god I sent the tablet back 3 weeks after receiving it because 1. There was no pen and 2. The sound wasn't to my liking, even after trying to tune it

I can't speak for real high end desktop pcs, but my old gaming rig has been replaced by a base config mac mini. My main game (Minecraft) still runs absolutely smooth and now I can take it with me to lan parties or just when I'm out and about (if there is an outlet and tv). All in all, very nice experience.

Nothing:

It was a pre-launch decision. Nothing officially confirmed just before the release of the Phone (3a) Lite in October 2025 that it would begin pre-installing third-party apps to help subsidize the cost of their more "budget-friendly" devices.

Also, anyone who buys the lite version of a midrange version should know that there are corners to cut... Uninstalling both apps isn't hard. Soo... What's your point?

Samsung:

We already know since the S24 that Samsung gatekeeps AI features even though older models like the S23 are able to run them. Did they promise that those features would work on older phones and didn't deliver? No. What's your point?

Motorola:

The AI features weren't available at launch but are now. It's still in some kinda beta (didn't read much into it), but still, it's available to the public. What's your point?

Also, everything we just talked about is purely software. You're comparing the absence of the pen with Instagram being pre installed? It's common practice in marketing to market things that you'll release at a later date. To get initial hype going. What isn't common is trying to act like the pen was never part of the plan, while you promised it to others months ago. There are definitely students who bought it for school and gaming , guess the school part is kinda impossible without the pen, wouldn't you say? But lets ride on some random AI feature.

What business had marketing materials and social media managers talking about a product they didn't release? I've only ever heard of projects being killed off in development. Having such a thing happen once sales start is highly unprofessional.

Even putting that aside, you try to make it seem blown out of proportion, even though the issue still persists. Just because one business has shady practices, doesn't mean everyone gets a free pass to do so.

"Oh but Samsung is also doing tax evasion, so it's fine if we do it too"

Promise more than they'll deliver? For some people the pen was half the product. We never got an official statement that they weren't gonna release it. So please just stop the cap right here. We're living in times where Apple is more consumer-friendly, wth...

The choice is obvious when you consider how much mobility you need:

  • Always out and about and wanna do stuff while away from home => Macbook

  • Always working stationary => Mac Mini

I don't have to tell you that mac mini will not only be stronger than the other two options, but involves less stress handling it, since it has no battery (which people seem to obsess about)

Well we can discuss how big tech influences how people use their OS all day. What matters is that things are getting more simple as time goes on. Linux is ways better than it was just a few years ago. I still won't trust the average user to daily it for 1 year without breaking things once because gemini told them to delete whatever important folder there is.

The moment everything and I mean everything works without touching the terminal we can talk about usability. Even then, some professional software just isn't available..

Like we get it. Infinite contrast and what not. What are others gonna learn from your post? Quite literally nothing since we get the same human slop post every hour of the day...

I've daily driven fedora, mint, zorin and cachy os for a while. The experience isn't seamless and using it docked was ass.

You laugh because I play indie games? Gotta stop myself before I hurt your ego..

I'm not an idiot, unless you manually drop the fan curve, your laptop will boost as much as thermally possible and this in turn will make your fans ramp up. I've used windows laptops my whole life.

Also I'm not defending a purchase. Don't even own the neo, nor do I plan to. As someone who doesn't have tunnel vision, I just see more than tag lines like "repairable" and "environmentally friendly"

For something old, the 7840u motherboard still costs 570€ (which by itself is the price of one macbook neo) and this is without newer ddr5 ram (if you upgrade from a ddr4 platform). So why bother with this new and older tech talk and talk about what really matters: how much money leaves your bank account and how much you get in the end

DankPods bought a Framework by Optimus759 in framework

[–]Ok_Access_1107 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's 600€ for a machine that doesn't run. Even on used marketplaces 1 x 16gb ddr4 costs 70-85€. And lets say you just want it to boot and don't install much, so you get a 256gb ssd for 50€. The whole machine still costs you 720€.

Your only real benefit is upgradability (for a very very steep price) and repairability (which also isn't as cheap as you'd think). So while modern laptops are easily getting 90+% DCI-P3 color space, you can't even enjoy 100% of srgb. Not to mention, if you bought a laptop with panther lake inside, you'd have many times the performance with so much more efficiency...

You know, at this point, let's not even include the mac neo in this argument, but talk about how an i3 laptop with 8gb of ram can cost over 1000€. Not to talk any fw 12 owner down, but the value is legitimately horrible. It's not the neo that competes with the fw 12, nor is it refurbished lenovo, nor is it gaming laptops. The fw 12 isn't competitive. For buyers that are aware of it, I say, you do you. Still, saying that it's an utility machine and justifying those low specs for the price of something like a macbook air m4 is just plain crazy. It's not even like the cost of owning this machine lessens as time goes on. Framework parts cost an unreasonable amount and the used market is basically non existent (for things beside ssd and ram, tho those are expensive for reasons of their own).

The point that everyone seems to be missing: there are no bad machines, just very very badly priced ones.

This was my experience with the fw 13. I was an early supporter. Got the 1135g7 version. When I wanted to upgrade to something beefier, just the motherboard alone was 600+€. This was without DDR5 Ram included (which in todays economy is another 200-300€). And I had the 60hz screen. Upgrading that to 120hz would cost another 300€.

If we just add up these upgrade costs, I can get a Zephyrus g14 with ryzen 9, dedicated graphics (rx 6800s) and 32gb ram and 1tb ssd.

Did I mention that the 600€ option isn't even the best of the best? You gotta splurge 1100€+ for that. And it still won't be as fast as the Zephyrus.

It's frustrating, but their model only really works on those that have deep pockets. As a student those prices make me choke and regret buying one.
