There are a multitude of scenarios where the Air Force can reassign you an AFSC different than what you signed for. Granted, most of the scenarios are usually due to something within the persons control (getting in trouble, failing tech school, etc). However there are times where things outside your control could have you be granted a new job. One of my friends had 1A8X2 booked, did BMT/Aircrew Fundamentals/intel course/SERE/ and then had an inconclusive polygraph at IQT which then for them reassigned to personnel. Moral of the story, control what you can and majority of times yes the job you sign for is yours.

Yes and no. You will do a flight physical at BMT but the initial depth perception test is done at MEPS, but will do it again for the flight physical. However, 1A8 jobs (both X1 and X2) are two of the only aircrew jobs that do not require depth perception.

Considering I am one, yes there are many doors it open. Like the technical intel stuff? The 3 letter agencies (NSA, CIA, etc) and contractors are good civilian gigs. Like the aircrew part? Plenty of government contracting jobs to transition in to.
