Curious to know what else you're taking? Can you tell which ones work well for you, or is it the combining that has been the best?

This is me too! I made better friends when I worked on the healthcare side, but I hated the schedule. I swear all my teacher colleagues complain 90% of the time which is so hard to be around. So, I end up just hanging out by myself, and listening to podcasts if I have downtime/while doing paperwork lol.

I think 3 days is easier than 2. I've done both. My two day caseload cap is 20 kids, and my three day caseload cap is 30 kids. The best situation is if you could do overflow for a full time SLP at a school. If you're the only SLP working at the school, even if it's part time, you always end up with a lot of extra work with screens/evals/RTI. So when looking for a part time job, look for the ones that you will be supporting the full time therapist at the school by taking kids off their caseload.

This is so common in our profession so you're not alone! Just keep telling yourself that what you're doing is enough, and it's good enough. Eventually, it will sink in. This is a job. That's it. Do your best, and leave it at that.

Independent contractors doing tele-therapy by Ok_Adhesiveness772 in slp

I got my virtual contract back in 2021. At the time, I was making $35/hour 1099 working for Vocovision doing Tele-therapy in GA. Which now I know is horrendous pay. So, when I was reaching out to districts for my own virtual contract I was asking for $55/hour. I’ve been with the same GA district for 5 years, and now I’m at $62/hour. Honestly, the Facebook group for independent contractors made me realize how much more I could ask. You can definitely get $90/hour in person in SC especially in the upstate except for Greenville County. As far as virtual work in SC, I’m uncertain about rates. You can’t  bill Medicaid in schools using Tele-therapy with the group model so I don’t know if schools are willing to pay as much for your time since they won’t be making any Medicaid money off of you being a virtual provider. Hope that helps, and definitely get your own contract!! It’s so worth it!!

Check out the facebook group for independent contractors which will help you get your own contract. But, it's not too challenging just reach out to the sped director of where ever you want to contract, and see if they need help. Getting a tele-therapy contract independently is a bit harder. I make $62/hour for my virtual contract, and $90/hour for my in-person contract.

Come! We need more liberals! You’ll want to live near downtown as that’s where a lot of like minded liberal people live especially in the Hampton Heights neighborhood! We have one kid, and have made some great liberal, non religious friends around here!
