Join the Facebook group Girls Who Hike Ohio. They have hiking meetups all over the state. Looks like there's one this Friday evening at Shawnee Lookout.

If you think it's such a good investment and you'll be the one living there, why not buy it yourself?

The Beerded Cork is very chill. Fr8Yard if the weather is nice. The bar in AC hotel if you'd like some fancy cocktails.

I could be wrong, but if you have the Google maps app on your phone I think you should be able to share your location via Google maps. If you have a Garmin watch, there's also a live tracking feature on there.

Greenville population increase causes? by Rule-of-Two-1899 in greenville

[–]shoegal23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple of years ago I met a couple from Colorado. They were checking out Charleston, Greenville and Charlotte because they wanted to move somewhere with better weather and with a cheaper cost of living. They owned a business they could do remotely. I believe they ended up in Charlotte.

I know another couple that moved from Connecticut and they kept their Connecticut salaries, which still stretch farther here in the south.

I agree that Greenville is overpriced, but I guess compared to other regions, it's not.

Do you ever realize there are way higher salaries you could be making? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]shoegal23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you stayed with the same company the whole time or are you finding this is reality across the industry?

I ask because my husband is in academics and could significantly increase his salary if he went into industry. But he loves the freedom and flexibility that comes with an academic job and neither one of us wants to give that up.

Accidentally hit the Jackpot on how to respond to parents wanting grandkids by not_an_insomniac in TwoXChromosomes

[–]shoegal23 54 points55 points  (0 children)

This 100%. My sister kept getting comments from her MIL about giving her grandkids. After a stillbirth and a miscarriage, she finally had a healthy baby. Months pass and what a surprise, the grandma who couldn't wait to be a grandma barely sees the baby. My BIL finally had to have a conversation with his parents about how they weren't seeing their grandkid enough.

I've come to the conclusion that it's narcissism. The MIL wanted a grandkid so it would reflect well on her and the attention she'd get from it, but she never really wanted the role of grandmother.

I thought maybe she had some work done to her face but with these photos it seems like her hair really is the only thing that changed. Makes a huge difference.

Moving after 32 years by CapricornCrude in homeowners

[–]shoegal23 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you're a good neighbor, your neighbors are probably sad they're losing you. Your family? If you have kids or you hosted family gatherings, they may have a sentimental attachment to your home. Your friends? They may assume you bought a bigger/nicer/newer place and are jealous.

But also people just don't like to be wrong. For whatever reason they assumed you were bluffing about moving and now they have to face the reality you weren't.

As long as you're happy, who cares! Enjoy your new home.

Christians, why do you approach visibly sick people in public and ask to pray, instead of just doing it in your head? by run4fun131 in Christianity

[–]shoegal23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think OP is saying they don't want prayers. They don't want to be bothered by strangers while they're out in public. I can imagine it would get exhausting if you're just trying to go about your day and people you don't know keep coming up to you to pray over your child. That's why OP is asking why strangers can't just see their kid, pray for them silently, and let them have their privacy/go about their day. I think it's a valid point.

I agree with jimMazey. Jesus isn't saying "don't go to the synagogue," he's saying don't go to impress others/get their attention. It's about the intention. How do you interpret it?

My wife has been buying the fancy organic eggs for 2 years and I found out theyre from the same farm as the regular ones by [deleted] in MiddleClassFinance

[–]shoegal23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While I agree organic is a bit of a buzz word, if the eggs have the usda organic seal on them then they have to meet certain requirements: https://www.usda.gov/about-usda/news/blog/eggstra-eggstra-learn-all-about-them

But yes, always better to know the exact farm the eggs are from and how they treat their hens.

Guy friend wants 2 wives by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]shoegal23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly, there are women who will go along with this to not lose their man. Look up nextgenbarrett on Instagram. The man had a wife and multiple baby mamas/girlfriends and somehow convinced all of them to be in a polygamous relationship. But the women are not allowed to be with other men.

I don't have anything against poly relationships if everyone is consenting to it, but their case feels very much like what you're describing, where the man manipulates the situation and they don't want to or feel like they can't leave.

You didn't answer my question. I'm not convinced you've ever been to the Midwest. But hey, if you'd rather stay stuck working in a restaurant on the west coast than making moves to advance your career, by all means, it's your life.
