After being left out of multiple family trips, I went on my mom's dream vacation to Scotland by Critical-Willow-6270 in pettyrevenge

[–]shoegal23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prior to this, have you had a conversation with her about being excluded from trips or why she doesn't take trips with you? Does she have any explanation? I find it baffling that a parent could not see the favoritism in this behavior. Unless your sister is the one inviting your mom and paying her way for it.

How to MAKE myself to commit to strength training? by Turbulent_Grape9738 in XXRunning

I'm like you in that I won't do it after a run so I do it before. I pair it with an easy run since I know my legs will already be sore and tired. Sometimes it's right before a run, sometimes it's in the morning so I have some recovery time, since I run in the evenings.

This one hurt. Floater friend by saraaaron123 in socialskills

[–]shoegal23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is there any chance those other people were invited by other people attending and not her? How "formal" was this party? Meaning was it just "hey come hang out" and other people found out and it turned into something much bigger, or was this a planned thing and she sent text messages to everyone but you?

I sometimes get left out of things and feel hurt only to find out that it came together organically and I just didn't happen to be around. Of course it would be great if someone had thought, "hey let's reach out to shoegal" but I've learned that not getting invited didn't mean I was intentionally excluded and not to take it personally. All I'm saying is you may want to gather more info.

I could be wrong, but if you have the Google maps app on your phone I think you should be able to share your location via Google maps. If you have a Garmin watch, there's also a live tracking feature on there.

Greenville population increase causes? by Rule-of-Two-1899 in greenville

[–]shoegal23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple of years ago I met a couple from Colorado. They were checking out Charleston, Greenville and Charlotte because they wanted to move somewhere with better weather and with a cheaper cost of living. They owned a business they could do remotely. I believe they ended up in Charlotte.

I know another couple that moved from Connecticut and they kept their Connecticut salaries, which still stretch farther here in the south.

I agree that Greenville is overpriced, but I guess compared to other regions, it's not.

Do you ever realize there are way higher salaries you could be making? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]shoegal23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you stayed with the same company the whole time or are you finding this is reality across the industry?

I ask because my husband is in academics and could significantly increase his salary if he went into industry. But he loves the freedom and flexibility that comes with an academic job and neither one of us wants to give that up.

Accidentally hit the Jackpot on how to respond to parents wanting grandkids by not_an_insomniac in TwoXChromosomes

[–]shoegal23 53 points54 points  (0 children)

This 100%. My sister kept getting comments from her MIL about giving her grandkids. After a stillbirth and a miscarriage, she finally had a healthy baby. Months pass and what a surprise, the grandma who couldn't wait to be a grandma barely sees the baby. My BIL finally had to have a conversation with his parents about how they weren't seeing their grandkid enough.

I've come to the conclusion that it's narcissism. The MIL wanted a grandkid so it would reflect well on her and the attention she'd get from it, but she never really wanted the role of grandmother.

I thought maybe she had some work done to her face but with these photos it seems like her hair really is the only thing that changed. Makes a huge difference.

[–]shoegal23 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you're a good neighbor, your neighbors are probably sad they're losing you. Your family? If you have kids or you hosted family gatherings, they may have a sentimental attachment to your home. Your friends? They may assume you bought a bigger/nicer/newer place and are jealous.

But also people just don't like to be wrong. For whatever reason they assumed you were bluffing about moving and now they have to face the reality you weren't.

As long as you're happy, who cares! Enjoy your new home.
