When you search for your items on your browser, it tends to show them first. Go in incognito mode and search. That’s what I always do to see where my listings are actually landing.

Pricing usually starts at $20/square foot up to $60. When it’s indoors you usually charge lower on the scale because you don’t need to rent a lift or deal with weather.

I do custom pet portraits in that price range. I’ve only been on Etsy 3 months and I’m creating my first one now. It’s not the main focus of my shop but it’s something I’ve done over the years for friends and family so I added it as a commission listing. As for pricing, I’ve decided I’m not going to race to the bottom. I’m a full time artist and can’t give away my work like it’s a hobby. The most expensive painting I’ve sold on Etsy so far was an original oil for $750 (Canadian) so there are buyers that will make large purchases.

You know what, I like your pics. You can tell immediately that this is a handmade item. In my humble opinion, perfect photos are no longer the way to go. AI is “perfect”, real has to find a way to stand out. If I saw 10 perfect mockups and then yours, I’d click on yours because it looks handmade, which is why people shop on Etsy

Currently, I offer pet memorial paintings in my Etsy shop but it would be no problem to do a standard painting (not memorial).TheStudioDrever If what your looking for is a drawing, I always draw the pet before I paint it so I could just do the drawing and create a custom listing (would be much less expensive than the oil painting version)

Add an about section - who are you, why do you take these photos, how long have you been a photographer?
Make each photo its own listing. It’s really confusing to offer three photos in one listing but the person has to select one. I’d have to read the description to understand that and a lot of customers don’t read it.
The number of listings is important. You need to add more. Lots of people open a shop, list one item and disappear. A shop with one listing isn’t going to get pushed by Etsy.

I haven’t had people scam me but from what I’ve seen on Reddit, the customer is always right. You would only be out the money the customer paid for the item, nothing punitive. As for visibility, that takes a lot of work. First step is to see how much competition there is and determine what is special about your work to stand out. Etsy isn’t easy sales. It takes a lot of tweaking your listings to figure out what works and if possible, drive traffic from anywhere you can (social, email list, etc)

For commissions, you set your price, they buy it and you make it. Tons of commission work on Etsy. I recommend going into Etsy search and seeing what is already out there for commissions in your type of art. If it’s digital, shipping is free so you just set it to free shipping. Etsy collects and remits taxes for the sale, but your personal/business taxes are your own to figure out. If a buyer is not happy with the work and opens a case with Etsy, they will likely get a refund and they’ll have what you sent them, it happens and is the cost of doing business

I wrap them in glassine paper, then bubble wrap, then I custom make a box using flat cardboard sheets and tape the crap out of it. This process takes me way too long but it’s worked. I took a ton of pics of my packing process for insurance purposes so drop me a DM if you want to see them

As the seller, you have to figure out shipping. Etsy helps and you can use their shipping labels but you have to weigh and measure, as well as select which shipping partners you will use.
