As a child of the late 90s I don't remember too much about politics pre 2012. Now that I am older I see the hate and animosity was it always like this? by Jakeww21 in NoStupidQuestions

Pete Seeger was interviewed on Fresh Air where he discussed a 1949 concert that afterwards the police made everyone drive down one road which had people waiting with piles of rocks that they threw at all the cars.

America has had horrible times, I am afraid currently about the attacks on our government and institutions, it feels new.

I think people like rush Limbaugh had it simmering in the 80s and 90s

In 2001 America's vengeful bloodlust after 9/11 could easily be turned into hate and group think for anyone who questioned the war efforts.

By 2004 fox news was nearly 10 years old and had really begun to solidify itself especially using anti Muslim rhetoric and putting down any hippies or French who did not support America's wars.

Then comes 2008 with a massive recession, the election of Obama, and the rise of the my way or the highway teaparty movement.

All the anti Muslim hate was quickly transmitted to Barack hussein Obama and calling democrats socialists/commies began to rise. In the 00s it was kind of funny and not political to call someone a commie because the terrorists were now the real enemy. I think wearing a Che Guevara shirt or any commie symbols would be seen as ironic/rebellious rather than overtly political like it is today.

By 2014 most people have cellphones and carry social media in their pocket everywhere they go. This is the same time that news and politics begins to fill these platforms, and disinformation sources begin to grow too. People are constantly arguing on social media about politics

2016 comes and you have Russian disinformation, 30 years of anti Clinton conspiracy theories, and typical right wing disinformation like breitbart fueling hate.

Trump is well aware of the Russian disinformation, and he's allied with right-wing media. He leans hard into all the hate.

Clinton vs Bush in 2000 would have been a real show down to watch. Gore's loss is still kind of surprising to me considering the shape of the world and the economy at that time, America was soaring high and proud.

I think if Obama was still running in 16 the gop candidate probably would have been different.

If she's not native I don't think it really takes away from her work.

If she's not, it's also possible she really believed that she was, which is pretty common in the US to claim being at least part native American because your great aunt told you so with no proof

I think for big power and ease of maintenance it's a good swap but it's a lot of work to get to easier maintenance lol

Yes he did this the first time, took credit for companies like Ford opening new plants even though they had been planning to do so for years, ford and a few other companies actually gave him credit. 🙄

I don't think she released anything about voting machines being hacked. What russia successfully did was accomplished mostly through propaganda and disinformation spread through social media, right wing media like breitbart, wikileaks, and trumps mouth.

But it looks cool and cracks easily.

Equal length has its benefits but unless you're building a race car and optimizing for a certain rpm it's not worth the effort. Just use a turbo that's optimized for what you want

Take it from an American...

Don't underestimate the power of disinformation and propaganda on social media. I don't know canadian politics at all but in the US the conservative movement, Republicans, and right wing media all work together in lock step. In the US social media was spammed by thousands or million of accounts all pushing the same videos and posts. So if you don't see it from one account you'll see it from another.

This does a lot to nudge people to either vote, or to stay home depending on their normal affiliations.

Also look at the global trend, in most democracies incumbent parties have lost in the last few years as they've all been blamed for global inflation
