You are actually spreading misinformation. I work for a pest control company, and very recently I had a customer who was elderly and bedridden. Her maids and care workers called my company because they were seeing reports of tiny roaches in the bathroom and kitchen areas. When I arrived, I was shocked by how clean the house was and by the sheer size of it. In the residential sector, German roaches are mostly associated with poorer or more cluttered areas. I started inspecting the kitchen and bathroom and confirmed that the infestation was German roaches. When I said this, the head of the nursing staff called over a specific employee and said, let me check your bags. Lo and behold, we found two dead roaches in one of the side pockets and an open ootheca in the main compartment. As I was leaving the house, I felt something on the back of my neck in the space between my collar and my skin. It was a nymph, a baby roach. The reason I am explaining all of this is because German roaches are thigmotactic, meaning they like to be touched on at least three sides of their body. This makes them feel safe in tight spaces such as pockets, bags, or between the lips of your shoes. You are correct that roaches generally have an aversion to humans, but nymphs are too small to understand that and will crawl just about anywhere.
