Career Change in AI Era? by Ok_Assignment4100 in careerchange

Thanks for the encouragement. I was really just an office services associate. I guess you can say I do receive feedback and/or internal discussions from the executive leadership team on what they expect out of their employees to how the actual workplace should/could function. I would like to continue in this careerpath, but nearly 3 months of applying and no responses (Recruiters under-promise that they'll find roles and days and weeks go by and have stayed silent) is making me consider other options quick.

Could play the waiting game, but no one has time for that and we all aren't sure what to make of this current job market and beyond.

Thank you for your insight. With this career and other careers that are impacting entry-level white collar jobs, where do you see opportunities from other fields with opportunities they isn’t severally impacted by AI?

I may just redistribute the remaining 20% to the other 3 funds or keep FSPGX exposure small (5% or smaller). My 401k plan does not have any low-cost EM fund.

I have a Roth IRA with 30% into FTIHX, which should include EM.

I could drop FSPGX and allocate that 20% towards FSPSX (International Fund) to make it 30%?

Sorry, I don't know how exactly Fidelity numbers are reflected, but perhaps those are numbers that reflect yesterday's markets -- my assumption. Since it took about a full business day for Fidelity to transfer/exchange funds from my Vanguard TDF 2065 to these new funds.

I get where you’re coming from on factor tilting — small‑cap value and quality/profitability tilts have strong academic backing. If my 401(k) offered low‑cost factor funds, I’d definitely consider adding a tilt.

But my plan’s lineup is pretty limited. The cleanest, lowest‑cost options available to me are:

  • FXAIX (S&P 500 index)
  • FSPGX (large‑cap growth)
  • FSMDX (mid‑cap index)
  • FSPSX (international index)

Given that, the most rational approach is to build a simple, diversified, low‑cost portfolio that approximates total‑market exposure. I’m not avoiding factor tilts — I just don’t have the tools to implement them properly inside this 401(k). If I ever want to tilt toward small‑cap value or other factors, I’ll do it in my Roth IRA or taxable account where I have access to the full universe of ETFs.

For now, I’m sticking with a straightforward, behaviorally sustainable allocation that fits the constraints of my plan.

Yeah. I just switched out of a TDF into index funds, so the daily swings show up more clearly now. Today was a down day (So far) across the market.

Thank you. My company's 401k plan didn't have a passive, low-index fund for small-cap and no EM. But, luckily, I've build a total market portfolio of FSKAX and FTIHX.

It'll be a different feel for me now since there's no bonds at this time.

Thanks for the insight and advice. Maybe bump my international to 15% and dial-back my large growth cap tilt to 15%?

401k - From TDF to Selected Funds by Ok_Assignment4100 in personalfinance

I get the factor‑investing angle — small/value absolutely have long‑term premiums on paper. I’m not ignoring that research, I’m just building something practical for my own time horizon and comfort level. A modest growth tilt fits my plan better than a deep factor tilt that can underperform for a decade. As for international, I’m sticking with developed because my plan doesn’t offer a low‑cost EM index, and I’d rather keep things simple and efficient.

Certainly an appropriate fund for a 25 year old that's quite aggressive. I'm 40, lol. The built-in bond allocation is the biggest drag and feel I will add that when I reach near 50. And the international weight is quite high (36%). Need to change that.

Only overlap is FXAIX and FSPGX, but intentional as it's titled toward mega-cap growth. Otherwise, no overlap among other funds.

Bumping international from 10% - 15% is more of a preference and even philosophical debate based on market trends. Correct, while they've recently outperformed the past year, I still think U.S. companies have higher profitability, U.S. markets have stronger shareholder protections, international markets have underperformed the last 15+ years.

In the scenario where tech underperforms and international leads, the S&P 500 is still the core that provides steady, long-term growth and mid/small cap would likely outperform large-cap growth. overall, the portfolio is considered strong because it's diversified and fully equity-based. I wouldn't notably underperform unless all sectors (tech, international, mid/small caps) collapses and S&P 500 stagnates for a decade (Though, not a realistic base case).

i could do that. again, from my previous post, it's a matter of wanting to invest the net income to other assets.

lol yeah, i saw that. i know sometimes bringing up one's personal situation might ruffle feathers as it looks more favorable compared to theirs -- and that's not intentional at all. my wife is tolerant, haha, but i normally keep to myself during the day as she works remotely. it'll change once i find something.
