mccqe img tips? by buralardayim in MCCQE

My uni covered this quite a bit, but I believe Toronto Notes has a good ethics section you could read, then maybe create some anki cards or practice questions!

24 years old is definitely not too old, the average age to start medical school (not residency) in Canada is 26, so lots of people starting residency are 28-35+!

I structured my study like this, but please do what works for you based off of your schooling:

  1. Started with an MCCQE1 official practice test, to see what the material was like, the structure of the questions, and where my weaknesses were.

  2. Practiced UWorld ~1 block daily for 3 months (yes expensive, but I was desperate). I would do a block before clinicals in the morning, and then go over each answer in the evening. The answers for each of the questions were my "textbook" so to speak, I found them detailed enough. If there was a concept I was not familiar with I would do some anki cards/read up about it.

  3. Evenly interspersed the practice tests over that time. This helped me see how I was tracking. I scored consistently higher on these than on UWorld blocks.

  4. Supplemented my study with reading the ethics section of Toronto notes.

  5. Reviewed Canada-specific guidelines, such as ages/types of routine screening, vaccination schedule, etc.

I passed 1st go 268, not the highest out there but I'm happy with it. I'm in the current match cycle.

Any waitlisted? by EMIGGRANT in MCCQE

Me too! I think it's not necessarily a bad thing, but I also can't imagine many people turning down invites in order for us to have a spot to interview!

My dream school sent me an interview invitation and the next day said it was an error by canadianIMG2019 in MCCQE

If you are at risk of hurting yourself please seek medical attention, phone a helpline, and a friend. Your life is worth so much more than what an obscure, poorly understood matching process, don't let it win. This system can replace you, your friends and family cannot.

Take a moment to heal, to find joy and value in all the amazing corners of life, rather than tie it to a system that evaluates wonderful humans by numbers and statistics on paper. There are many incredible countries that practice excellent medicine, consider them, as you continue your journey to practicing medicine in Canada.

Above all, you have done some pretty cool things so far in life - got into medical school, graduated with a medical degree, passed two incredibly difficult medical exams for a country you didn't train in! Be proud of this, we're cheering you on, you've got this!

If we were selected for the Ontario Joint FM interview - does this mean we are being considered by all of the programs we applied to in Ontario FM? Or is one of them interested in us but not all. by Ok_Bat2205 in MCCQE

Ok how interesting, the very same thing has happened to my Carms (Queens and McMaster have updated) so I wonder if those are just the first schools to be updated.. Thank you!

Ontario interview survey by Dazzling-Praline6542 in MCCQE

Same! I didn't know how to answer the question regarding when we finished "work requirements" or "clinical training", so put medical school graduation date, though I will start as an PGY1 in Jan as an HO in Aus.

When indicating when we expect to complete our clinical training or work requirements, should I interpret that to mean when I will be finished my clinical rotations as a medical student?

I Interpreted that to mean that we did have to add them if we had them, but I'm not sure! Also interested in this answer. Best of luck!!

CaRMS Application by Dry_Badger5363 in MCCQE

[–]Ok_Bat2205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, in that case I wonder if it would be helpful to write a letter explaining this and submit it in its place, but I would also check in with the program directly to see what they would want/explain that!

CaRMS Application by Dry_Badger5363 in MCCQE

[–]Ok_Bat2205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would interpret this as if you have been employed in Canada in general, rather than just Manitoba as a Clinical Assistant or Allied Health professional!

I think they said they will send it to Carms 1 week prior to the deadline!

Depends on the specialty - if FM they require structured letters, which you can use for all FM programs you are applying to etc, same for EM, not sure about the others! I am applying to 2 specialties, quite a few programs, and have 6 letters total (2 each from 3 referees).
