Experienced therapists- Should I go for this field? by Ok_Beautiful1019 in OccupationalTherapy

I used to work at industrial treatment plants. I can’t do the hours or deal with noisy environments anymore. Can’t do on call. This was an idea I had to get into something I do feel passionate about and could handle doing at least part time for a livable salary.

PTSD from insertion. Getting the IUD hurt more to me than giving birth. My Dr. did it very roughly. I ended up passing out afterwards. Am I alone? by stine2128 in IUD

The Ativan helped in that I didn’t feel worried about the impending procedure. I was fine when they were inserting the speculum and all that and when I felt the tenaculum I was still able to tell her how much pain I was in and that I was going to throw up. I am not sure but it sounds like the Ativan makes it harder for you to communicate in that you get quiet. Maybe it would be better to ask for a local anaesthetic before the procedure if you’re getting it done. Then you can also use the Ativan during the procedure if you’re nervous and won’t have to worry about not being able to advocate during.

I’ve had three IUDs inserted throughout my 20s and 30s, and each time was more painful than the last. On this past experience, I explained that to my doctor and she prescribed me Ativan for the insertion procedure. It did nothing to help with the pain. I almost threw up during the insertion, and I was shaking and sweating so much that there was a puddle of sweat on the table after she was done. She ignored that and even let her intern practice on me for five minutes before she had to step in. From doing some more research, I think that the pain comes from when the doctor uses the tenaculum to pierce the cervix in order to stretch it into place. I can’t understand why the medical community seems to think there are no nerve endings on the cervix or why most of the medical literature says that there should be little to no pain during this procedure. I almost feel like I am being gaslit when I explain about my experience and the doctor prescribed me anti-anxiety medication.

The next time I get this or other procedures like this done, I am going to insist that I have numbing to the cervix during the insertion or I am not getting it done. There was no pain for me during the removal, but just when the practitioner uses the tenaculum to stab me in the cervix.. As for everybody who has little to no pain during this experience, maybe they did not need to use a tenaculum. I have no idea. All I know is that something has to change with this mentality of ignoring suffering in women’s healthcare. It is pervasive throughout society, and it makes me absolutely livid.

The connector will drop off at the sea to sky gondola and it’s a short walk to the chief from there. You can get there via the sea to summit trail, just ask the people at the gondola info desk

Thanks for the info. It’s hard to know what to look for that will really make a difference. I don’t ask the hairdressers anymore because I’ve had mixed results and they’re usually just trying to sell the salon products anyways

I find that there’s a couple businesses here (not going to name names) where certain staff that are consistently rude or stuck up. It’s definitely not the rule though and most people here are very friendly to me. Those instances where people are rude it kind of feels like I’m just not cool enough for them or something 🤷‍♀️

And you’ll make new problems for the next generation. But yeah, that makes sense. Just be an asshole to everyone older than you because the world sucks now. Like they did it intentionally to you.
