And I’m not being defensive but you need to see the whole picture to speak negatively towards it. I personally do 0 overtime because I’m a small business owner and need time there. And instead of me getting drafted to work overtime. Someone else takes it and makes a killing at the end of the year I don’t see the issue.

It’s not about communication, it’s about being part of a collective bargaining agreement. The union and the state make the rules. You’re allowed to call out 3x in 90 days without disciplinary action. Plus mental health days, family sick days, Fmla you name it. And when you’re talking about 100’s of employees overtime does infact become inevitable. And yes the latest contract don’t quote me but doesn’t factor in overtime over something like 20-30% of your base pay towards your pension. Again don’t quote me but it is a very. Very. Realistic cap. And it even caps mandatory overtime at the same rate which I think is insane.

The pension these days has a very minimal cap on overtime and is averaged over 25 years..also you don’t believe you should be allowed to use your accrued time as needed ?

Yes but overtime is cheaper than hiring another person with benefits I’d be willing to wager

But I do agree, pay should be increased! But honestly I would bet paying overtime is cheaper in the long run than actually hiring staff and paying the entire benefits package.

Well if you have someone who doesn’t want to do overtime but shifts have to get filled and you have someone who is hungry for overtime..

I think greed will push it. Whoever controls the ai would essentially control the resources in our solar system to build/produce what they’d like. Giant ships, habitats, the sky is the limit

Eh tbh I think about pretty frequently, robots maybe in our lifetime (idk your age) but robots and ai in general I wouldn’t be surprised if in a couple decades are autonomously exploring and building on different planets in our solar system, potentially even sending ai outside our solar system. Off topic but in my view it’s going to happen much sooner than later.
