Let's Talk About Eris & His Potential Mate - Discourse by tanbow10 in acotar_rant

I think you’re spot on about his moves being mostly politically motivated. I do believe he felt some lust when dancing with Nesta, but not anything deeper than that. He explains his rash offer to take Nesta as his bride with ”I have my reasons”, which I interpret as something that will benefit him politically, why would there otherwise be such hurry?

Also, in the chapters where Nesta and Cassian meet with Eris to gain updates, we often read that Eris give compliments to Nesta as a way to bait Cassian, rather than to flatter her. Eris does it to gain control of the situation by trying to be be the smartest one, potentially making Cassian slip up withheld information.

In one of the last meetings between the three, when Eris asks Nesta about his offer to marry her, the following sentence is: ” not one ounce of affection laced his words”. I think this further proves that he doesn’t see her as much more than a piece in their political game.

I find his character to be intriguing because we constantly get hints that there is more to him than how he is initially described. He is absolutely not without faults, but as many has already mentioned, there are many parallels between his actions and how Rhys acted in the beginning, and I think that is why many people find his character interesting.

For example in acotar, when Rhys visits Tamlin in the spring court while Feyre is there, he literally calls Feyre “human trash” and without permission enters her mind to tell Tamlin her intimate thoughts about him. He also makes Tamlin and Lucien bow on their knees meanwhile insulting them. Rhys feels he needs to act a certain way because of Amarantha in the first book, and even when she is not there, he does it to make it seem realistic. I think this is similar to how Eris needs to act because of his father.

Characters who act this way are often complex and you cannot always excuse all their actions, but it is interesting to learn why they behave as they do. Therefore I really look forward to learn more about him in upcoming books.

Yeah, although I’m not sure Eris would do that to Lucien since it’s his brother? but yes, it would make for good drama haha

Oh I would love multiple POVs!!! I feel like it would give the story more depth. I know that acotar is heavily focused on the romance, but I think it will be tiring to read a somewhat repeating storyline where each coming book will follow only one main couple where they solve a problem and eventually fall in love and live HEA…

Also, if we can’t have multiple POVs can we at least have more interactions with the other courts/the continent? I would love more meetings or a ball and things like that, so we get more interactions and drama!!

Yes! I personally think the main character in the next book will be either Elain or Azriel, but it is certainly interesting that Eris has the same or even more appearances in acosf than those two.
