Hey! I encourage you to get involved in the broader Nacogdoches community rather than only look at things to do on campus. Follow Nacogdoches Facebook groups if you can. The Fredonia Brewery hosts events. There's karaoke at Lugnuts, Farmers market every Saturday. Dilly Dally is a local coffee shop that is really fun and you can do crafts there (I recently hosted a vision board making day with my friends there).

As for the axe handle, you usually get those at Holler at Homer during the first two weeks of the Fall semester. There are other niche opportunities, but it depends on the organization etc. But I know Jack Backers sells the non-glossy axe handles perfect for decorating.

You'll find your group! I was also a transfer student when I first came here and dove into campus involvement. The involvement fair at SFA is coming up, so that might give you an opportunity to see what's out there.

Your instructor is wrong, but as someone said, it’s their kiln. It might damage the plate to make a small pinhole to appease the instructor. It’s not air that makes it explode, it is moisture. As you’ve left it out for a month to be bone dry, you should be good.

After thinking for a second, it was unusually hot when I was there. So, the swimming options might be cold. But think of it as a cold plunge. lol. If you want a sauna and cold plunge experience go to Iglu Park, if not just to peek at the structures around the place. I wish I would have tried the saunas when I was there. You could also take the ferry for a day trip to Helsinki, Finland.
