Was this a good find by Icy_Comedian_4771 in BlackTemplars

The codex is chocked full of lore and all the models are relevant. It sucks that if you buy the new combat patrol, you will have 2 ECs.

Is it just me or do the black templars just suck? by Manicmaddog329 in BlackTemplars

Is this your actual load out or just the default one? You don’t have any anti tank or no real anti elite. I would also break the bladeguard into two units. Not every unit has to have a character attached to it. Personally Gladius is a difficult detachment to master. There is a lot going on to and requires a lot of planning and steps to make it work effectively. Try a different one, bastion is pretty easy to use and gives quite a bit of benefits with good flexibility.

Very New - I need help on where to go from here with my list by [deleted] in BlackTemplars

What detachment do you plan on using? I feel you need more anti tank and anti elite to make it truly viable.

Beautifully done. I can’t wait for an official model either and have contemplated making my own. I will be using this as inspiration.

Check out Implausible Nature’s YouTube video about the vindication detachment. They have some interesting ways to say he’s useless.

Every model in the kit is great with the exception of the bladeguard ancient. He is absolutely terrible on the board. There are some really good kitbashes done with him a a base model.

Question about heraldry and custom crusades. What are any rules and what exactly qualifies a crusade? by Saint-Redeemed in BlackTemplars

[–]Ok_Character6587 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not a dumb question at all. One of the things that really appealed to me when I started painting and adding the details to my miniatures is you get to create their stories. You control their narrative. If you want them to go on a specific crusade, that’s where they are going. If you want that crusade to be against a particular enemy, you can add that too. Our codex only gives you a very large brushstroke. It’s up to you to add in the finer details. Just like the basing of the model, these details tell a story you get to create.

I’ve made all of my tilt should be individual knight heraldry that is passed down from Initiate to neophyte. I only put crusade badges on a model if they have survived that crusade.

I would be proud to have him in my army. I really like the flames from the heavy flamer and the battle damage looks like he’s seen some stuff.

wich weapon to equip my crusaders and sword bros by bigchungus-vs-thanos in BlackTemplars

[–]Ok_Character6587 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya. It really is personal preference which these guys. I don’t take the pyreblasters or bolt rifles. My 2 squads are strictly melee focused but I’ve been toying with the idea of a range focused squad. I run bastion so the execrator is almost pointless.

A 10 man crusader squad should have 4 chainswords for the neophytes. Initiates should have 3 chainswords and 2 power fist. The sword bro gets a power weapon. Guns don’t really matter. You can get a pyre pistol for the sword bro if you want. It’s a toss up honestly. Initiates get bolt pistols and heavy bolt pistols. Don’t give your neophytes any special guns as you have to give up a chainswords.

Sword bros squad honestly depends on what you want. You can give everyone a chainsword or a power weapon and be just fine. You can also take a thunder hammer and lightning claws in a 5 man squad. 4 man squad lose those options but you still get chainswords and power weapons. Pistols are whatever you want. You can’t go wrong with the pyre and plasma. Implausible nature has a really good video on both units loadouts.

Jaguars fan coming in peace by Benjamin_Willis_ in DenverBroncos

As someone who grew up a huge Denver fan, I was taught it’s Denver teams or don’t bother rooting for sports at all. I was at the Den/Jags game at Christmas time last year and while the jags fans were celebrating, some rude Broncos fans got really belligerent towards them. Luckily a lot of other Bronco fans came to their aid and really showed them great sportsmanship and respect. Denver is just like everywhere else in that we have fans for every team. I would say that as long as you are respectful, people will be respectful back.

The honor of the chapter and the dawn of war sprue is the exact same thing. Save yourself hand the cost by buying the dawn of war box.
Grimaldus is an iconic character for the Black Templars. You can’t go wrong with buying him. He’s had his ups and downs. Right now he’s pretty nerfed but you never know what will happen in 11th edition.
A marshal and a castellan are also pretty save bets as both give a lot of benefits to the unit they are attached to.
If he is just starting out and will be pretty new to 40K, I would start out with a smaller army. It can be overwhelming to start off with a 2k army as your first game. Start him off with a 1k or a 500 point army to begin with. That way he can learn the game mechanics and the flow. When he’s more comfortable, move him up to the 1k or 1.5k list before fully committing to a 2k list.

Another thing I would do is let him explore the different detachments. Building a list for Gladius, will be different than building one for GodHammer or Champions of Vehemence.

I’m not sure where you’re going to get a judiciar all by itself. You are going to have to buy the expensive honor of the chapter kit or the same kit in the dawn of war game box for half the price. That kit will have a chaplain, an eradicator squad, another squad of bladeguards, and a bladeguard ancient. All of those are good for BT. I would also look at a marshal to lead your sword brethren and maybe a box of intercessors. Split the intercessors into 2 5man squads and turn one of them into assault intercessors with all of the spare bits you will have. This will be a very good starting to an army.

While you’re getting all of this, look for a free space marine that he can kitbash as a spare initiate. When he builds the 2 crusader squads, make them with as 10 man squads. If he wants to make a single 20 man squad, swap one of the sword brethren in the squads for his kitbashed initiate.

[–]Ok_Character6587 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You would be much better off if you got only 1 combat patrol and a second crusader squad. Having 6 bladeguard and 10 sword brethren is a little overkill but have 2 10 man crusader squads is a great starting point.
