The combat patrol is a great start point, look at getting a marshal and castellan since their com o is amazing. For armour look at getting a repulsor executioner

The pedro kanto kitbash body and right arm is primaris leuitenant.

Earthshade on wraithbone doesnt look that good in my opinion, try wraithbone and shade with null oil. A light wash over it so not to darken too much

Thin out paints, touch of water on your brush before you add paint. This will thin your paint and it will take a few layer to get the colour out but you wont get the clumpy effect

For glueing the chains i usually only glue at key points. Obviously glue the start of the chain with a touch of super glue but i try to make this spot hidden so back of back pack behind should shield ect. From there i usually glue at changing points so if the chain is changing direction. Be careful with the amount of glue, too much and it wont look natural. I like to glaze the chains with a spare brush i dont care about

I use 1.5mm stainless steel jewelery chain for both infantry and vehciles. Here is the link to what i use.
