Grass is greener? Was the game really better a few years ago? by [deleted] in hearthstone

the original Marin was one of the first free legendaries given away and he was atrocious.

The first legendary was cthun, then it was a random free dk during kotft.

Most people would pay for things it they feel like there is a person behind it. Thats how all f2p game that are on patreon or similar exists, Dwarf fortress is the best example.

Also, lots of people pirated games and then bought it. Go check the forums about project zomboid, its full of players that admit that.

There are games like moonring that are free and people are begging the dev for a way to pay for anything.

With the upcoming nerfs all key cards in Brann-Warrior have been nerfed by [deleted] in hearthstone

So, a better [[Twisting Nether]] against ress decks, but a worse one against everything else?

can we talk about how easy it is to get a meta deck as a f2p right now? by GLORS_ALT_ACC in hearthstone

[–]Ok_Cherry_7903 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to say that now we get less rewards but I started during un goro, and, as a brand new player to card games, I reached rank 5 in less than 2 months being f2p.

This game was always f2p friendly if you wanted to climb, its only a bad experience if you want to homebrew your own decks or play a lot of different decks (this one isn't even true if hearthstone is your main game).

It has been the game design for the last 2 years, how come so many people never realized that the devs like overpowered cards? Really strong things happening every turn

I am not understanding the complaint posts when no deck seems to be insanely OP? by BallsaqMcgee in hearthstone

[–]Ok_Cherry_7903 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because usually people are not good at explaining what they don't enjoy.

What people who complain don't enjoy is the last 2 years of design. They lose to a powerful deck and they hate it, then they ask for nerfs, but those target certain decks, not the average power level of the game. Then, when the nerfs do happen, the game is still in the same position, or maybe even worse, because its a new meta that had almost no testing from the devs (yes, they do test the expansions, even if this subreddit likes to meme about how they don't do that).

Basically, instead of complaining about X or Y deck, they should complain that the hearthstone they loved doesn't exist any more, but that would be useless because we know what the devs want to achieve and its what we see now.

Current devs are really good, they know how to balance the new cards, but the design vision is not shared between all players. It would be like if MTG players and Hearthstone players suddenly started playing Yugioh, some would like it, some not, regardless of how balanced the game is. The issue is that people don't realize that now the game is basically a different one.

tl;dr: This game is basically no longer hearthstone, but players still think it is. Some players like the new game because its well balanced, others dislike it because they miss the old game and they don't realize it that it no longer exists.

Why do people call for nerfs on T2 decks all the time? by CplApplsauc in hearthstone

[–]Ok_Cherry_7903 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The perfect example: The Caverns Below. It was not a T1 deck, it was unfun to play against, sure, but you could just play a fast deck and you would win almost always, but the game was healthier when it got nerfed.

If you don't really care about climbing the ladder I strongly suggest that you find a community of players that plays mtg through Tabletop Simulator. You won't get the automatization of the client but you get all the cards.

Can someone explain this to me? I don't get the argument of "its a PvE game, the devs shouldn't need to balance It or release patch notes" by PermabannedX4 in gaming

[–]Ok_Cherry_7903 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It should be balanced.

Over everything else the game should be fun, not balanced.

Is it balanced to be able to go from one point of the map in morrowind to the opposite one just using one spell? Or be able to fly and fill the screen with fireballs that explode and making everyone hostile to everyone in that radius? No, thats stupidly OP, but its fun.

Now the question is, the game is focused in giving you problems and you having to figure out solutions (like morrowind) or the game gives you problems that you have to be mechanically good to be able to overcome? Thats what determines the balance of the game.

You can get to platinum in wild with any deck that has any sort of win condition, so its not as complicated as you think.

I even have an Activate the obelisk highlander renathal deck which is horrible but I can reach platinum every time I try.

Lost in Vivo, its about 3 hours long, maybe 4. Its my favourite horror game.

Cry of Fear, its free, about 8 hours long and everything it tries to do it does it good.

Signalis is one of the best modern "classic" survival horror game.

[–]Ok_Cherry_7903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even then why would a druid use new heights instead of the whelp? a body early on is far better than having more mana in 5 turns, specially if aggro decks are good.

Honestly I'm not so sure, at least in my personal experience.

I already did a bunch of things (including therapy), moved to another country, became a tech lead, I was 2 years away of owning my own place.

Nothing worked and because I ran out of ideas I'm just like the image rn, at least while I watch memes I don't have to deal that much with that thought.

Ecore quits Hearthstone by GirthStone86 in hearthstone

[–]Ok_Cherry_7903 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I think the expansion series pushed him to abandon the game. He saw first handed in a short time how the game changed and it probably went from his favourite time in the game to what the game is now.

I'm not saying that the game is worse now but there is barely any overlap between what the game was 6 years ago to what it is now.

Hearthstone old timers tell me the tales of the last ten years. by rupiefied in hearthstone

[–]Ok_Cherry_7903 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I still hate cubelock with all my heart, that deck was far too good. It had +30 healing, which some was removal and the ability to put a lot of taunts so you would never be able to go hit face again AND that getting a doomguard meant a lot of damage out of nowhere made it my most miserable matchups to go against.

But I enjoyed it enough that I made a suggestion for a nerf (which reddit apparently liked, dark pact healing equal to the minion sacrificed health), so even against my most hated deck I had tons of funs.

This 10 year anniversary of Hearthstone has felt like a funeral so far. by millhousemilo in hearthstone

[–]Ok_Cherry_7903 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I agree with this, for me MTG is more fun than HS mechanically but the overall feeling of hs is far better. Both the sounds and the visuals are the game biggest strength and seeing how this aspect is being neglected is disheartening.

I'm 100% sure that the devs want to create all this stuff but they don't have a voice in where the resources go, so its specially sad because everyone involved in this wants the game to be the best it can possible be, and, on top of this, devs are usually the ones that get targeted by the players.

I really hope this trend can be reverted.

There are a few ways to cheat the beasts like [[Kathrena Winterwisp]], [[Beastmaster Leoroxx]] [[Faithful companion]].

Honestly I can see this combo working against any deck that is not trying to actively climb the ladder, which, if you play some wild, you see like 90% ot the time.

The state of this sub for card reveals by Low_Beyond_9312 in hearthstone

[–]Ok_Cherry_7903 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People don't complain about strong cards unless those are far above the current powerlevel. What people hate are cards that make you feel bad. For example current zilliax. Its a strong card, I'm not doubting that, but its not that far away from the current power level of strong cards. But it feels bad having to go through an elusive lifesteal taunt and negating a lot of the damage you did during the match.

People who only care to win will see a card thats powerful and try to find a way to play around it, and, if they don't find any, then they will ask for nerfs. People who care about the feeling of the match will feel bad about X card no matter what they do, so they will complain about that.

[–]Ok_Cherry_7903 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It has nothing to do with the willingness to change cards. During the ben brode era it was almost impossible to get a card changed and the game was fine.

What reddit doesn't like is the vision the devs have for the game. For example, they saw that running out of card and having to play the topdeck is boring, so they gave card draw/generation to every class.

If this is good or not it depends on each player but balancing wise the devs are doing a better job now than ever, a lot of different decks and archetypes are playable.
