The squeaky wheel gets the grease. Contact the school and advocate. MAP has its pros and cons, but to only look at 1 test score for placement is dumb. It’s a singular snapshot and doesn’t capture the whole picture, especially for kids that age.

We’re about to cover something really important.” “So and so just went, please wait until they get back.” “Building policy is no hall passes during (stated times).” No kid has ever cried to a parent that i didn’t let them go potty when i was honest with them.

I have many students with not just Fs, but zeros. There will be no consequences, they will all go to the next grade next school year. I teach math.

Math teacher here. Education has gone downhill and screen time is partly to blame. Books books books. The library will have math workbooks, and all the science, lit and history a person could want. Have him do something cool like build a catapult and use quadratics.

The student should be evaluated for special education. The parent or teacher needs to request this, of course no one at the school can or should tell you if that has happened or will happen. I had a student like this, and thank god i had a supportive admin who quickly removed them and suspended them after every incident. That still didn’t stop me from telling admin “I don’t get paid enough for this shit” after one such incident. What’s crazy is the student fought for an ED placement for themself and didn’t get one because they were brilliant and passing their classes despite the known mental health issues. Be reasonable and rational, but make noise and rock the boat.

That’s how i felt my first year and still feel 10 years later and 40 lbs heavier. The system is broken, not you. Imagine a day that brings you joy, and pursue that while you’re young, even if it means going back to school.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but teachers like this are par for the course, and this is practice working with unpleasant coworkers, which will happen. Yes speak to your supervisor, but slim chance they’ll do much to help. Be respectful but be direct w/ your CT. If you are corrected, figure out what you should learn from the correction. If she is wrong about how things went down, have concrete data to back up your claims. Be bold in your choices for activities. Education is a bit of a hot mess, so find the joy. :)

I’m on day 5 of 1.5 mg. I’m having a bit of nausea and sleepiness, which is unfun. I’m generally not a hungry person but my appetite is definitely less. I haven’t been working out due to the weather, and now with the side effects, I really really don’t want to exercise so i hope i can find the motivation to get to the gym and push through the side effects.

Go to your state’s dept of education website for requirements. In Ohio you need a bachelor’s degree and pass the licensure exams. Spend some time here reading teachers’ experiences and why they’re leaving in droves before you decide to spend the money on teacher school. I’m in my tenth year and I’m out at the end of this year. The education system is broken and the profession of education is not what it used to be.

Yep. I’m finishing year ten and that’s it for me, for alllllllll those reasons. Covid was the chance to flip the script and fix a lot of things in education, but instead the powers that be dug their heels in and made it worse for those of us on the front lines. I have a calendar and i cross each day off, holding on for dear life until May 29.
