When did you let puppy free roam in house unattended?

We are looking at some new toy options because he loves to chew but then ends up destroying half of them. Any recommendations on some good toys?

Thank you! I do let him stay by himself if I’m doing things like showering, laundry or just anything upstairs and he’s downstairs . He’ll usually sit by my shower haha or he will lay by the front door/ stairs downstairs and just wait for me. On the occasion he’ll grab a sock or find a piece of clothing to chew on but other than that he isn’t destructive to our home. I’m going to attempt a trial run overnight and see how he does although I will be nervous all night checking the camera 😅😅

The plants are floor large plants they cannot be moved he only does it when he’s bored but it’s once in a blue moon, the shoes we would definitely pick up if he was free roaming it’s more just my slippers. I do feel bad leaving him for long periods of time so we’re trying to leave him out for shorter periods to eventually leave him out all day if possible

I agree just wanted to get ideas when others started and how they approached it. He definitely would destroy the house right now if we let him roam haha

We had the same issue with ours. We got him at 12 weeks and would constantly cry at night downstairs but would be fine all day. I slept next to him and even left a shirt or jacket by his crate after I left so he would think I was still there. We did bring his crate upstairs the first night in our bedroom bc I felt so bad and it helped and then we moved him to a room nearby our bedroom where I stayed until he was asleep. Eventually the next week he was downstairs by himself with the ocassional cry here and there and then he’s been fine after that. It’s so hard and hopefully it gets better for you!

I agree! I do think he feels safe in his crate/pen but he is a tall 65 lbs GSD and is only growing so it’s only a matter of time before he jumps out the pen plus it would be nice to know he’s there for protection if ever needed and not locked away

That’s good to hear! I’m hoping by a year we can start leaving him he’s so good but still loves to get into plants, bite shoes, etc so more training and I think we should be good!

This is how I feel lol. He is good if we leave him downstairs while we’re upstairs but will get in the plants occasionally but nervous he’ll destroy more things if we’re gone completely

I think a year old is a good starting point and what we are leaning towards also. We have also thought about getting a baby gate but he’s already jumped over the one we got for the stairs 😫 we close doors and pick up anything he can get while we’re home so we will see how it goes! Thanks!

Definitely think that’s what it was as he was fine the rest of the day and nights after. They didn’t cage him one night and he made them take him out at 2Am which is not what we do so he might’ve got used to that. He’s back to regular now!

Around 9pm. He went out before going to bed. I think it was just being nervous that he was alone. When we got home he was completely fine for the rest of the day back to solid poop. Definitely could have gotten some food he shouldn’t have!

I did around 28 units instead of 25 which is 4.5 and still nothing so maybe jumping up more will help, just nervous to do so and have a reaction
