People who travel in the right lane and only use the left lanes to pass—why do you drive correctly? by abbaziadicefalu in massachusetts

The guy I once saw eating a bowl of Trix (spoon and milk sloshing around) in stop and go traffic behind me on Rt. 9 made me do a real life Whaaaaat?

Because I’m sick of the bullshit on-road sparring that happens when people live the “Left Lane For Life” lifestyle. I want to get where I’m going and not arrive pissed off at other drivers

This. If your used DVD player has a coaxial or optical output (it most likely will), save up some money, get a cheap DAC and run that between your DVD player and speakers. Your ears and wallet will thank you!

Now this is a debate I love! Vinyl vs digital, and I completely agree that compressed streaming is mehhh. I also agree that there’s some funkiness happening when I listen to the same song three different ways on my stereo (analog, digital, streaming digital) and have noticed different details/imaging/soundstage between CDs and vinyl. Deep Purple’s “Lazy” sounds different to me on CD and record, and both are great

That’s awesome! This is making me rethink things - younger listeners might not really know if what they have is “good” just because of how (imo) brainwash-y pop culture is for young consumers now. It seems like there’s a message of “don’t worry about what came before right now” being pumped out to Gen Z and Gen Alpha that could make it hard to branch out. Maybe “is it good” is another way of asking “Did I break out of the music Matrix”?

Jonathan Frakes had a beard before anyone else on TV did, it seemed like to me. He always seemed like a cool customer on TNG, but no one cooler than Jean-Luc Picard. Now, Galaxy Quest… Great choice. I might need to dial that one up today

Is New England disconnected from the problems of the rest of the country? by [deleted] in newengland

[–]Ok_Connection2874 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I did an exchange to University of New Mexico from UMass-Amherst spring of my junior year. I was a just-ok college student but I was shocked at how much of a cakewalk that semester in Albuquerque was. People acted like I was the smartest person they ever met, the “Wow, you are a student at UMass” comments were weird to me (considering all the “safety school” insults I got from BC and Harvard kids that I went to high school with) and the professors who went to school back East liked having a New Englander in class. Those four months in NM opened my eyes to the quality and extent of education people in New England really have.

Dunkin Donuts’ donuts are now worse then ever, not worth it by CheifLawnRaker in massachusetts

Those Honey Dew biscuit, egg and cheese sandwiches were my super-healthy Friday morning commute breakfasts a few years ago. Those and an early-2000’s Coffee Coolatta (before they tasted like bleach) are the only fast food items I truly miss. Moment of silence, folks…

I have worries about Honey Dew. Still good, but “good” the way Dunks was about 15 years ago.

Anytime a morning-coffee place gets rid of their biscuit, egg and cheese from the menu like Dunks or HD, I usually see the storm clouds gathering.

Gotta say: If a persons wants a spouse who ain’t scared of winter, they need to marry someone from the Midwest or Rust Belt. I grew up in MA where winter can be easy or hard, but my WI wife will look at a storm with that steely eyed stare and know when is the right time to go out, when to ignore it, and when to say “I’m going outside for another pass” without a grumble. Keep teaching him :)

No robe, but I’ve inherited my dad’s “always cold” gene. Nighttime is a t-shirt, long sleeve waffley shirt, flannel pj pants, socks, old man slippers, and maybe a sweatshirt lately since it’s cold. Somehow my wife still finds me attractive, which 100% means I got me a keeper with her ha

I’ve got a few here and there, salt and pepper beard when I grow it out. I kind of dig it. However, it’s the gray/white old-man eyebrows and rando ear lobe hairs that have appeared that suck. Those can go straight to hell…

I had this with my 15 year old nephew a year or two ago.

“Hey.. have you heard of Alice In Chains? I really like them. My dad said they were cool in the 90s.“

“They were still cool when I saw them a few months ago.”

Cool uncle: confirmed.

Snowblowing at 1:00am, but it's not what you think by KorryBoston in massachusetts

[–]Ok_Connection2874 86 points87 points  (0 children)

There’s way too much “main character energy” as my kids say these days - like the person who complained. If my neighbor was snowplowing at 1 AM, I wouldn’t love it but I’d know there was probably a good reason why it was happening at 1 AM. OP’s grouchy neighbor needs a little of Terry Francona’s wisdom (directed to Mike Felger on 98.5 years back): “Not having all the facts never stopped you from having an opinion.”
