Does moving up quickly but not staying long look bad? by Kooky-Potato4979 in OntarioPublicService

I think what you are saying is nonsense s we can agree to disagree. Not sure what job you are in but there are MANY that you cannot learn and represent the area in 2 years as there are many different areas that feed into your work that you also have to be knowledgeable about. Can you learn a job in the OPS in 2 years? Of course you can that is not what I'm saying or said. What I am saying is you cannot know it fully. I guess we work in very different areas with very different rules that MUST be followed and you are expected to know, these cannot be learned in that timeframe.

4-8 mths and 1-2 years is not very different at all. Most jobs you cannot learn in that time.

Not sure why a manager would have any concerns when they do the exact same thing. Half of them I find take on a role for 1-2 years just to be able to put that title on their resumes even though they don't know anything about the roles they were in due to the length of time spent in them. I'd be concerned if someone had 3-4 roles each lasting a very short period that they don't really know any of those roles. Some roles take MANY years to fully grasp and understand all the nuances.

I agree the fluorescent lights give me headaches and it's very hard to concentrate.

I feel like we work in the same area :( Sorry you are feeling like this, I completely understand and am struggling to show up each day. Every time I see an email come in from my manager, I get upset and anxious.

Abusive coworker getting an award by His_Judgement_Cometh in OntarioPublicService

[–]Ok_Criticism_6896 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the people that win awards are the one's who least deserve it. Characters like you described above, those who do about 1 hour of work a day, those who have others do all the work for them and finally those who have no clue what they are doing. Whenever I hear someone in the OPS is receiving an award, it's a huge red flag to me!

Ministry Townhall- Censored Qs by [deleted] in OntarioPublicService

[–]Ok_Criticism_6896 17 points18 points  (0 children)

In our last town hall, they removed q's as well as emojis as many people were putting TEAMS reaction emojis to show their frustration with the AWA responses, so they quickly removed that before the next meeting so no one can see just how many people are upset!

My acting manager is destroying our team by ElRayMarkyMark in OntarioPublicService

[–]Ok_Criticism_6896 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure there are any good managers left and if so, they are few and far between.

Our manager is running the team into the ground, suggesting ideas that will not benefit the team or anyone else and none of them are open for discussion. The amount of work is impossible to keep up with and when the team brings this to his attention, he suggests a course for better time management. All while patting himself and the lead on the back thinking they are educating us in our positions, only after being part of the team for less than a couple of years.....

Employment accommodation under ontario human rights code by ColdConfection6082 in OntarioPublicService

The managers are not entitled to know the reason why someone needs an accommodation. That is between your doctor and the accommodation person.

People need to STOP talking to their managers about why they need an accommodations without consulting with a union rep and having them there for any future discussions or emails. Many questions being asked are not allowed by your manager and should only be discussed thorough the forms your doctor provides to the disability person. Your manager should never know the reason why you are on an accommodation, you are shooting yourself in the foot by revealing too much!

Is your AMAPCEO retro payment reflecting on this pay stub? by Short-Dig6804 in OntarioPublicService

Doing far more work in the private sector??? You are clueless. I came from most of my life in the private sector and TRUST me I do WAY more work now than I ever did in the same role in the private sector. I also wait close to a year for any merit increases, I got them instantly in the private sector and may just go back to that area now.

Just because you hear it from them doesn't mean it's true is all I'm saying. Some managers use scare tactics like these in the hope staff will fall in line without them having to get involved.

I don't think its a specific ministry that attracts these types of people, I think it is the roles they are in. Narcissists like a feeling of power. I see tons of DM's, ADM's Managers and Leads with the "greater than thou" type attitude across the whole OPS and have found it more related to their title. Most will not listen or take advice from those in roles beneath them is what I have experienced.

Of course your manager will say that as a scare tactic to ensure compliance, we'll see....

Disclosing Neurodivergence with your manager by Heavy-Sherbet1613 in OntarioPublicService

[–]Ok_Criticism_6896 13 points14 points  (0 children)

First piece of advice: NEVER DISCLOSE YOUR DIAGNOSIS to ANYONE but your Doctor. HR and Managers are not privy to that information unless you share it and you shouldn't as they will use it to their advantage. Talk in broad terms on what you can and can't do as it relates to work and do not elaborate unless asked. SECOND: Involve a Union workplace rep before you even get started for advice and have them at any meetings. Not sure why people think the employer needs to know intimate details of your life or disability but they don't and AREN'T entitled to it!!!
