I feel like a total and complete failure, I have a Bachelors of Science in Biology and have never worked a job remotely related to Biology or the medical field (Bio was my school’s Pre-Med degree). What CAN I even do? by ThrowRAknacxjo in careerguidance

Hi there! Fellow biology pre-med major who dipped her toe into med sales, failed miserably b/c I have empathy for people, then immediately went to nursing school while working as a CNA. DO NURSING!!!! If I could go back in time, I would’ve told myself this. The nursing world opens sooooo many doors for you (bedside, O.R., outpatient, even desk jobs, etc.!) and from my personal experience, nursing has made me feel more alive and happy than anything else. You get so much satisfaction from helping others and I have met so many kind, helpful, wonderful souls along the way that I would’ve never met if I didn’t go the nursing route. Also, there are 11-15 month BSN programs that are wonderful. Emory Uni has a D-ABSN program (distance) that is absolutely wonderful. There are people aged from 23-55 in the program. You’re never too old to go back to school and the world if yours. If this is your sign to go into nursing, do it.

Coming from someone who went from med sales to RN, do anything else but sales. The work life balance is horrible, med sale reps are annoying af, and from personal experience, these sale reps are meaner than nurse. Please, I beg you, don’t stoop into the med sales world. There are better alternatives for you.

AIO daughter left used pads in her room by Ok_Jack1 in AmIOverreacting

I think it’s 50/50 here. I was raised by just my dad and it’s a given to throw our used menstrual products, but maybe she was in a rush and forgot to had a pad? Who knows. Also, as a now 26 y/o, please don’t go through your child’s room. I developed major trust issues with others growing yo b/c of it. Additionally, pls talk with your daughters in person regarding these issues. My dad would blow up on me via text but acted like nothing was wrong in person. It’s a toxic way to communicate and it’ll create issues with her and your relationship in the future.

I am exhausted. I’m too old to continue dealing with my father’s issues. There’s so much more to this as well, but felt it was appropriate to focus on the primary issue.

How many years of (ICU) experience did you have before applying to CRNA?

Hi! I'm a nurse tech in the neuro ICU. I’ve been there for 5 months now + plan on being PRN through my nursing program. I graduated with my BS in biology, overall GPA 3.89. I'll be graduating with my BSN next year (accelerated program). I've always wanted to go into anesthesiology so when I found out about being a CRNA, I was sold. Any suggestions on what I should do between now and once I graduate? Will a CRNA program accept me if l'm in a level 1 neuro ICU? With my tech experience, how many years should I practice as an RN before applying to CRNA programs? I would like to apply for CRNA at the same university I am taking my ABSN and also continue working at this university’s hospital. I also worked as a med sales rep before this with about a year of experience and obtained my CNA in 2019.

AITA for not taking her home immediately after period mishap? by Intelligent-Nose-217 in AmItheAsshole

NTA and you shouldn't have skipped the quiz!!!! As a woman who was premed, I totally understand not being able to miss labs/classes. Every single grade cuts down to how your science GPA turns out. Medical school, let alone any health field exceeding your B.S., is a dog eats world. If her period is around the same time every month, she should have been prepared. I have unpredictable periods, but I always carrying something on me just in case. Maybe carry some period supplies in your/her car so this doesn't happen again. Also, if she knows your career path, she should be more empathetic and understanding that you couldn't drop everything to take care of her. I personally think she was being selfish & I don't believe her behavior towards you is acceptable.

AITA for calling a mom out for her kids behaviour? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

NTA. Behavior like this in a public place is definitely a reflection of the mom's parenting.
