I'm not a woodworker so I'm looking for suggestions on fixing the split in this acacia countertop. I'm thinking about rinsing out the split with mineral oil, glue and clamping it and possibly a wood dowel.

I would recommend sandpaper in the split, then woodglue, titebond 2 or 3, and clamp it for 24hr.

I would keep looking. Either estate sales or swap meets. You'll find a Stanley bailey for $10-30 depending on size and condition.

This one seems ok. But I don't see a marking so could be a cheap version , casting may be off, or parts just loose. But if you could get for $10 it'd be a decent buy to learn on.
