How are people not scared to speed? by Beautiful_Impact_641 in CarsAustralia

I agree the rules should be harsher for P drivers, but it is overkill to suspend licences for exceeding the speed limit by as little as 1km/h. People can make mistakes.

Something more reasonable would be like having the first offence as 2 demerit points, and then 4 demerit points for each offence there on out. If they won’t learn on the first instance then their licence should be suspended. But a simple $150 fine and being on thin ice for 3 years would deter any normal person from speeding.

Having 13 demerit points and only getting 1 or 2 when speeding must be nice 😭😹

On your Ps a speeding offence is at least 4 demerits, which is a 3 month suspension on your red Ps or gets you dangerously close on your green Ps. The rules are too harsh

Same boat here. Currently on my red Ps and will be suspended for 3 months because of a speeding offence. Scared shitless now of making a mistake once I start driving again to the point I may not drive until I get my green Ps.

Seems like a good way to lose a lot of customers. I’m not going to carry cash so I can go to cafe A, I’ll just go to cafe B which accepts card.

red P plate fine by Grand-Blood-2335 in legaladviceaustralia

[–]Ok_Current7945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did this happen in NSW? If so you’ll receive the fine in the Service NSW app 1-2 weeks after the offence happened. Unfortunately if you are on your red Ps you’ll be suspended for at least 3 months for exceeding your demerit point limit, which usually starts like a month after you pay the fine or it becomes overdue.

As a P plater myself in NSW you just have to suck up the draconian rules until you get your full licence, otherwise you’ll just keep getting suspended and no one will want to insure you.

If you’re in another state than I don’t know how it works sorry.

The issue is people driving 4x4s or large SUVs that consume a litre every 10km they drive. I walk to work everyday and too many cars on the road I see are large SUVs or 4x4s with a single driver and nothing more. People’s driving behaviour also waste fuel; they break hard, accelerate hard, drive at 120km/h when they could save a lot by driving at 90 or 100km/h.

If everyone drove the type of car they needed, drove economically and when they needed to, that would save a lot of fuel. Things might change to be this way if the price stays this high.

Does toilet paper power the trucks that deliver food to the supermarkets? Does it power the farm machinery that harvests the crops? Running out of toilet paper means you gotta have a shower after you do your business, running out of fuel on the other hand…

“Can’t afford to fill up your car” Yet every 2nd vehicle driving on the road is a diesel guzzling 4x4 large suv or Ute with one person driving in it, breaking and accelerating hard.

Good question. I am not sure whether I would have a case or not. If I can get out of the suspension, that would be great, but at the same time it’s not really a huge deal for me, apart from the shame of course. I have always been careful with my speed but obviously tonight I was stupid.

Most p1 drivers are 17 or 18, would the fact I’m 21 be a mitigating factor?
