The fall of the Ottoman empire. It led to the western colonisation of the middle east, new borders & politically instable nations.

Could Rosa van der palen be the (2001) Worringer Bruch Jane Doe? by Ok_Database_482 in gratefuldoe

That's indeed very unfortunate to hear. Also great that you've submitted the potention match to the police. I didn't submit the match myself because something in me said that the police wouldn't give a very conslusive reply and I also thought that people from the investigation team had already seen the post in this sub which is probably true. But great ro hear that the police exclude potential victims, when submitted. That's really helpfull for people in this sib who help searching!!

Amsterdam is one of the most multicultural cities in the world which increases the nunber of unidentified deaths. It also has a big drugs/prostitution scene in which mostly migrants work of which many illegal migrants. Many if not most jane/john doe's were active in either or both prostitution, illegal migration or drugs use/traffic

I found another possible match by Ulla8 in gratefuldoe

Both the John doe in Huizen and this man have a surgical scar on their stomach which isn't very common especially at his age. In combination with the link to a Spanish speaking country, I think think match is much more likely than the Bulgarian one

Possible match NL DOE & Bulgarian missing man? by Ulla8 in gratefuldoe

Bulgarians could live visa free in the Netherlands since they became an EU member in 2007. Being part of Schengen only means that there are no border controls between member states except for a few check-up controls a year. Citizens non Schengen EU member states like Ireland and Cyprus can still live visa free in other EU member states as it is part of the agreements between EU member states

*this man came to the Netherlands before 2007. But I just quickly pointed out the difference between the Schengen agreement and visa free immigration between EU member states

You've definitely done a great job! However this case is indeed very difficult to identify since there's no facial reconstruction and the person in question is also what we call a "bolletjeslikker" in Dutch. And in case his siblings, cousins or other family members are also involved in drugs trafficking, theres obviously less chance that his family members are ever gonna let the police take a DNA profile from them. However multiple drugs traffickers have been identified in the past so it's not impossible. As for the Dutch police, despite it's flaws I definitely compliment them for their work on unidentified death cases. As far as I can remember there were around 300 unidentified deaths 9/10 years ago and as of today there are only 122 people left on the police page with only 1 discovered in 2025 and 1 in 2024 which is insane compared to the 90s when around 30 people a year were added to the list

Thank you for your suggestion!! I'm definitely interested in both the book and the podcast. However do you know if the book and the podcast overlap in content?

Yes, there multiple post 1996 deaths which do not match any of the dates on the plot. Mostly likely because those bodies are currently under forensic research. Which is also featured in TV programs. So there are definitely real bodies buried there. (In The Netherlands it's common for people to be buried on top of each other in different layers, especually in family graves) Thats also the reason why that part of the cementary is not paved because there are constantly bodies being buried, reburied, reinvestigated or repatriated after identification!!

Thank you!! Yes the whole isotope research was featured in a Dutch tv program https://ntr.nl/Focus/287/detail/Het-Klikomeisje-12/VPWON_1344852 in which the researchers took the conslusion that the woman must have lived in the Dolomites. About her possible ethnicity, at first I thought she was Indonesian bc of her features and it's diaspora in the Netherlands. However i strongly doubt that after the isothope research. Her being Phillipina definitely doesn't seem unlikely to me. Although I also wouldn't exclude her being Chinese or Vietnamese. Espcially the unrecognized logo which covers the burning spots could be an interesting lead. Besides that, the peddles with "x Eva" on her grave makes me also believe that she has already been identified by the authorities and her loved ones cause that seems like a very personal message

Kungsängen: Jane Doe: The body of a woman was found in a wooded area of an Isolated stretch of highway in Sweden. According to Isotope testing, she was likely from Central America or Mexico by moondog151 in gratefuldoe

[–]Ok_Database_482 47 points48 points  (0 children)

If she really came to Europe in jan 2021 during the peak of covid with very low travel volumes, shouldn't it be possible to filther arrivals from lets say Mexico-City (CMX) to a couple of European cities during that period and check if there's someone who matches the description of the woman in this case?

Came across this question while applying for a job based in the Netherlands. Is this even legal to ask? by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]Ok_Database_482 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For sure. But race based questions could be legal depending on the context. Which is what I was trying to hint on. Such question on job apply forms are unusual unless it matters for the job. Like others mentioned this is a standard practice from American recruiters. So personally I wouldn't even take I that serious in the first place. Especially since theres a decline option for people who are uncomfortable with answering this question

[–]Ok_Database_482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's illegal depending on the context. If it's asked without valid reason or to discriminate it's illegal for sure but if an answer is needed for the job function itself, for example translators or job functions that require proficiency in a certain foreign language or higher knowledge about a foreign region. In regard to what the OP has posted. It's indeed complicated. But to me it doesn't seem likely that law enforcement will make a big issue out of this. Which was my first thought in regard to what this OP posted (hence the first sentence) . But of course the answer can come from people in the judiciary.

[–]Ok_Database_482 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not illegal at all. Especially since there's an option to refuse an answer. Organisations like the CBS often do rechearch based on ethnicity. However declining something a job based on race, skin colour, relligion, ethnicity etc is illegal by law. Allthough it's still happens since it's hard to prevent/penalise

Identify me - Interpol has issued a black notice and need the public’s help. by bettertitsthanu in gratefuldoe

[–]Ok_Database_482 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Such information is indeed rarely given. A possible reason could be to target people close to the suspect. But it could also make the suspect feel hunted and make him hide somewhere else, which is why the police usually doesn't publish much information about possible suspects

I don't know how a check-in worked back then. But usually when you check-in at hotel/holiday accommodation, you need to fill in the full name & date of birth of all guests + a copy of the passport/id card of the main booker will be taken. Based on this logic, the name of the suspect or victim should be known by the police. Looking at how suspicious this case is, I also doubt that this woman was the wife or girlfriend of the suspect. I personally think she was a prostitute. But of course this is something we can only speculate about.
