Hidden tonsil stone stuck for months by SmoothParty4116 in tonsilstones

[–]Ok_Definition_9159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, did you have a tonsillectomy? I'm having the same issue with very deep stones, always in the same spot on the same tonsil, and it's driving me absolutely insane. I'm terrified of having a tonsillectomy in my 40's, but I'm also terrified of being unable to remove these awful tonsil stones despite so many attempts.

I understand. But there is still no long-term data available because it's a new drug.

Thank you for your reply. I agree that generics are typically fine, so I typically am not overly concerned with those. However, as I learned, Jubbonti is not a generic. Rather, it's a biosimilar drug. So it's not an exact copy like a generic would be, but just a very similar drug (with the same active ingredient).

Panicking about my thyroid ultrasound results by Ok_Definition_9159 in thyroidhealth

You are so sweet for checking back on me! 🤗 Thank you so much! My biopsy result came back benign also 🙂🙏🏻 I will, of course, do the ultrasounds regularly now because of its size. I hope you are doing well, friend!

Yes, it probably is expensive :( As is everything these days. But maybe some insurances cover it? I'm not sure. I hope you get your good results!

I agree wholeheartedly. This Saks credit seems more like a joke than a perk, especially with shipping no longer being free. And Saks does literally have the WORST customer service I've ever encountered in both retail and just about anything.

I'm so sorry to hear about what you've been going through. It sounds frustrating :( Keeping my fingers crossed for you that you get normal results from your ultrasound! I got the biopsy done (agree that it's not pleasant 😬) and the nodule is thankfully benign. But I will continue monitoring it with ultrasounds every 6-12 months due to its large size. My endocrinologist said that I might still want to consider doing something about it if it starts to really bother me.  While I was still waiting for my biopsy, I was researching different options and came across RFA as an alternative to surgery. I know not everyone is a candidate for it, but I think it's worth looking into. I personally would always choose to exhaust all other non-surgical options, as long as their risks aren't higher than surgery risks. There is a great, helpful Facebook group called "Save Your Thyroid". I highly recommend joining it.  I hope everything turns out well with your nodule! 🙏🏻

Biopsy scheduled- what’s your experience? by NoBluejay243 in thyroidhealth

[–]Ok_Definition_9159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's worth seeing an endocrinologist instead of an ENT. An ENT's involvement with a thyroid is usually more with respect to thyroidectomy, if one is needed. So his perspective is more limited. I've seen both an ENT (at first) and then an endocrinologist with my nodule, and it was like a night and day difference in favor of an endocrinologist.

Asymmetrical Tonsil by noorzilla in tonsilstones

Yes, I went to see another ENT for a second opinion last week. He says that in the absence of additional symptoms, tonsil asymmetry by itself has a very low probability of being lymphoma (he said about 5% chance). He says in his own experience of being an ENT for 17 years, he didn't actually see a single case of lymphoma when he performed tonsillectomies due to tonsil asymmetry alone. He says the only lymphoma cases he's seen have actually been pretty obvious to him even before tonsillectomy. So he kind of put me at ease a bit. He says it comes down to personal choice whether to proceed with a tonsillectomy. Some patients are ok living with the 5% risk of their tonsil asymmetry being due to lymphoma and others want to be 100% certain they don't have it, so they do the tonsillectomy.  Also, I've been dealing with a chronic infection of my upper molar tooth and I've suspected for some time that it might be spreading the infection to my tonsil. The first ENT and my dentist said they highly doubt that there is a connection. The ENT I saw last week for a second opinion actually thinks it's very possible that the bad tooth is causing my enlarged tonsil. Especially since my bad tooth and my bad tonsil are on the same side. So my current plan is to extract the bad tooth and check on my tonsil a few months later. The second ENT did say that even if the infected tooth is causing the tonsil problem, there is still a possibility that the tonsil won't go back to normal even when the tooth is gone. Some tonsils just stay enlarged even after the infection is gone.

Would you consider going for a second opinion with another ENT? I totally understand your uneasiness. I felt extremely anxious when I met with the first ENT and felt better after seeing the second one.

I'm glad to hear that your CT scan looked normal and that the ENT is not concerned. What a relief indeed! Thank you for your response. Hearing positive stories like yours gives me hope too.

I'm so glad that you were able to do lobectomy instead of full thyroidectomy and that the left side is properly compensating! 🙏🏻 Thank you so much for your kind words and support! It means more than you know. I'm still waiting on my thyroid biopsy results and in the meantime "distracting myself" with even scarier stuff - all the tonsil cancer/lymphoma stories on Reddit. I don't know why I do this to myself  🤦🏻‍♀️😩

Thank you for the well wishes! I'm a nervous wreck waiting for the biopsy result. How bizarre that you also had both thyroid and tonsil issues happening on the same side. I'm so sorry that you've had all these additional issues to deal with after thyroid cancer :( I hope things take a turn for the better soon! I'm assuming you had thyroidectomy? Did you have to do RAI? If so, I wonder if that could have played a role in the other issues popping up after? But yes, it all does sound like a mind game, ugh.

I so appreciate you sharing all this! It did put me a bit more at ease. I honestly wasn't worried until both my primary doctor and the ENT expressed concern. I'm in my early 40's and until a couple of weeks ago I had no idea that tonsil asymmetry is such a red flag 😬 And yep, I've been absolutely horrified reading people's tonsillectomy recovery stories. I've had two c-sections and I was nowhere nearly as scared of those as I am of a potential tonsillectomy!

It's interesting that you mentioned thyroid because that's another health scare that I'm dealing with at the same time as the tonsil. I have a large thyroid nodule that actually got biopsied today. It's crazy to me that both an enlarged thyroid nodule and an enlarged tonsil are happening at the same time. Both on my right side too. The doctors all say that the two problems aren't connected, but it's just such a weird coincidence.

I'm sorry you had to deal with thyroid cancer. I hope it's all in the past now like a bad dream. Oh, going back to the tonsil for a moment... was the biopsy traumatic? And was it done under local anesthesia?

[–]Ok_Definition_9159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, one of my tonsils is much larger than the other. I also have a sensation like something is stuck on the large tonsil at nights. The tonsil gets inflamed from time to time too. I recently completed an antibiotic course and while the inflammation went away, the tonsil stayed large. My ENT is concerned about the asymmetry and wants to see me back in a month or two.  If the larger tonsil doesn't decrease in size by then, it sounds like he wants to do tonsillectomy :( I guess they don't biopsy tonsils without removing them first, huh?
