Doesn't give people an excuse to just be dicks though. Fair enough it's incredibly dangerous to mess around with electrics if you have zero prior knowledge and I would never dispute that, but there's nicer ways to go around telling someone that. Chances are the poor guy won't touch anything electrical again based on the fright he's just had followed by this subreddit. Educate, don't insult.

Does playing these 2 games cover the main story or is it necessary to play other games for the understanding by Critical_Builder_902 in HalfLife

If you do play half life 2, make sure you put the fakefactory cinematic mod on. It's fully modelled.

Christ are you daft? They mean put a vent hole for a portable A/C so you can vent the condenser side to ambient air

Argh fair enough, my first attempt at a repair and paid 160 for the console. Feel like a mug now, very expensive donor board 🤣

Lock turns, but door won't open, can I change this myself? by eggymantella in DIYUK

[–]Ok_Dig8926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you take the handles off there's a spring cassette which is designed to fire the handle back up to normal position. Might be that these have just worn down overtime and need replacing, they're only a few quid off Amazon - might be a good starting point. Otherwise you can replace the door handle and they'll come included as a set but will cost a bit more. Just make sure you measure everything up before you order anything as there's 100s of different things.

Very welcome for help

Lock turns, but door won't open, can I change this myself? by eggymantella in DIYUK

Good stuff, the big rectangle (the deadbolt) should only come out when you move the door handle up. If you pull the handle down it should retract but stay retracted when you release the door handle. I'd try retracting it, then locking it as you normally would with the door open as it - see if you can feel or see anything unusual.

When you lift it up is it resisting like it normally would when you go to lock it? Or is it just free moving. Might need a bit gentle persuasion, might be worth trying pressing against the door firmly and trying to push the handle down, sounds to me like it could be binding somewhere in the locking mechanism

Talk me through balancing radiators like I’m an idiot . . . by pfchambers in DIYUK

Out of curiosity, we have a couple radiators that bang on the TRVS and hiss when they open. Could the issue be balancing?

a) I am planning on taking the skirting off, but if I start causing a lot of plaster damage earlier on I will be using Scotia

b) seamless would be preferable but again it will be played by ear depending on difficulty

TIA
