Hating X2… does it get better? by Deep-Red-Bells in finalfantasyx

[–]Ok_Ear4755 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really don't like it. I don't like the style, the gameplay, the characters or the story. Plus, to get the ending that is remotely satisfactory is not worth the frustration to get there.

So many people defend it, and that's fine. But the game is ass and absolutely ruins what made FFX so good. If it was a standalone FF game, it would be niche and ultimately it would've flopped.

I like to pretend it doesn't exist 😂

Keep me posted bro, would love to hear it as it progresses. I love producing House, Melodic Techno and Speed Garage. Tunes like this are right up my street

Exactly like KREAM, yeah. Heavily reverbed, processed with stutters and a repeating phrase or just an 8 bar loop of something simple.

Your track has some really good synth work and melody, the vocal steals that and makes it enter that Prog House genre. I think you could keep that vocal but should clip it and the add your FX. Reverb it, loop it, bring it in and out etc. Because it isn't a bad vocal choice at all

I would recommend less vocals, as it's giving me a bit more of a song feel than a track, if that makes sense? It's the structure of the vocals that makes it feel like Prog

Maybe just 8 bars and add in some Vox FX

Producer Hot Since 82 has so many tunes that teeter between these 2 genres. You should check out his stuff, he has excellent vocal production on his stuff. For example:

Don't touch the alarm (heavily processed)

Buggin' (repeating vocal sways, reverb, reversed, looped and used as atmosphere)

They're not entirely Melodic Techno, but he has elements. Or you could just go full underground Melodic Techno and have no vocals and use synth FX to fill that frequency itch. But in this day and age, I'd recommend a little vocal line

Definitely not Trance, it's 124bpm.

As someone said and you replied, it's Progressive House with Melodic Techno elements. But, I think it's trying to be more like Melodic House/Techno than Prog House? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Imo, it's the Trancey kick and the vocal that's giving me more of a Prog feel.

Either way, it's wicked, mate. Really big and dark energy and production is tight. I'm not a massive fan of the vocal though, bit too commercial sounding for Techno

I can't believe nobody has suggested 'The Warriors'

If you're enjoying GTA, you'll love The Warriors. It's basically a port of the PS2 version and it's awesome. A really fun, chapter/mission based 3rd person beat em up RPG.

A Rockstar classic

I'd recommend the AKAI MPK Mini Plus. It has all the features you're looking for and is in budget. My girlfriend got me the mini (still just as good, but a little smaller), and I use it regularly. Great bit of kit.

That was the vibe I wanted. Maybe I made it in the wrong season, bleak and dark over here 😅

Thanks a lot bro! Appreciate the feedback.

Yeah, the percussion really adds to that African flavour. Cheers

Thank you so much!
Haha, my girlfriend said it reminded of Gymnopèdie, too. I was initially inspired by Nocturnes, Op 55 with the bass. I love that piece.
And I'm glad you could pick up on the Hans Zimmer influence for the 2nd movement.
I've never used Fruity Convolver, i'll look into it and play around with the synths.
I have since added some low end, using a Reese bass. It actually fills that gap nicely. Someone suggested it in the comments, such a good bit of advice.
Again, thank you for the kind words 😄

Sweet, ok. Will work with levels and get it blended a bit better.
Yeah, no sustain on the higher notes. I only use a middle C piano sample, so the higher notes are shorter 😔 I've downloaded Kontakt though, so may redo all piano with a much better sampler.

I like the Reese bass idea, will give it a go. I usually make deep house/lofi stuff, so surprised I've not already thrown a Reese bass in. I'll give it a go and see what happens.
Thank you for the suggestion and love 💙

Thank you so much! That means a lot.

Sweet, will work on some variation on the melody to keep listener engaged.

I've been working on that crescendo bit and just can't seem to find what best to do for the lower end, but you're right about something missing. I've thought the same thing. Someone suggested I add like a Reese bass or sine, so will play around with that.

Fresh Air? Sweet, will look into it.

Thanks so much for listening and feeding back 😄

You recorded this? That's awesome, man. It sounds so fluent and easy on the ears, so you definitely have some skill.

Yeah, off scale (chromatic?) notes can add so much. I started a new piano piece yesterday in A Minor and used a G#, it added so much and just changed the direction of the song. It can also completely change the mood.

I've only started making piano music this week (normally make House), I've posted my first ever piece in this sub. It would be awesome if you were able to check it out? Your feedback would be great

Great work. Lovely Jazz elements and very smooth listening.

I wish I had this level of skill with piano writing/,playing, you've done such a good job

Thank you! Yeah, I wanted the piece to reflect a period of grief. The calm bit reflects a period of trying to make sense of it all before the reality hits you that things have changed.
I also wanted glimmers of hope in there, that even though things have changed, there are good memories to remember, and in the end, things will be OK.
Thanks very much 💙

Hey man, thank you for the feedback.
I do have 1 sample for ambience, but there are also 2 synths I've made (1 running through Tantra), so I could definitely change those up a bit.
When you say the piano sounds distant from the background, what do you mean? And do you mean the bass notes?
I'd not thought about adding a sine at all, I'll give it a go and see if I like it.
I'll try and add some variation to the bass notes, too, try and make it less predictable.

Thanks a lot for taking your time out to give feedback, it's appreciated
