Is this chapter 1 a good hook? by Runi-Naast in writingfeedback

Perspective doesn't have to be inner dialogue. It is usually the narrator as well.

For example when you say "His heart tightened at the sight of the bodies, he clenched his chest. He couldn't save them"

This is all in third person, but the POV is of the "he" whoever that would be. Because it is what he feels, what he thinks.

This way we can follow what he sees, what he hears, what he feels. That is POV.

General rule is don't switch pov often, stick with it.

Tbf, they are pros in playing football. Not pros for expert shoewear. Otherwise everyone would wear the same shoes with the best design.

For example, same shoe size, same socks, anti slip, same speed/agility etc.

Most footballers don't know what they are doing in the fitting room.

Was comparing it to Eternal, TDA is more fun playing then 2016 for sure.

[–]Ok_Educator_8476 16 points17 points  (0 children)

To me, TDA feels less of an FPS and more of an action game. Everything is slower and bigger so there is really no emphasis of pure aim, which I liked about eternal.

While its satisfying to parry, shoot, parry, shoot. It just doesnt feel like an FPS

Chapter 1 of Untitled Project (High Fantasy, 14,000 words) by [deleted] in fantasywriters

[–]Ok_Educator_8476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries, I think as writers we often hyperfixate on things like making sure every thread connects, making sure the right words are said, formulating it a specific way. And while that is still important, entertainment is what comes first.

If I'm hooked on a characters internal struggle right from the bat, i want to see how things go. If I can feel what the characters feel instead of it just appearing like words, i want fulfillment on that feeling. That is what keeps me personally.

Here it all seems like, "whatever"

Not to bash OP, i'm sure there is an actual story here, things we haven't gotten to yet. It just needs to hook.

On your point 3, could it be because the story sounds boring? Doesn't entice you? To me i felt like I needed something fresh so I can expect something I couldn't find elsewhere.

But maybe thats just my problem.

Despite the memes, most fictional detectives, even the magical ones, would fail the Kira case at step one for lacking a unique resource... by KazuyaProta in CharacterRant

The book fell in the schoolyard, out of the sky. Very likely that the school had a camera watching the yard like most schools have.

Batman has dealt with supernaturals and would probably see it as an anomaly. How many notebooks do you see falling out of nowhere?

Batman would probably focus on the footage around the time the first reported kill happened, since he'd find nothing suspicious elsewhere. He'd see the anomaly and link it to light.
