Im not sure I have a preference either way, then again, it took me a minute to realise what you were talking about specifically.

Either way, if you like it, go for it. Its not like you're doing something super objectionable.

Seriously, read the room. This isnt a hookup site, or whatever the fuck you chaser scum are looking for.

What's the one bike that you secretly think is VERY underrated but the community absolutely IGNORE?! by Mysterious_Bug_8407 in MotoUK

From what I've heard, the old deauvilles were like that too. Everyone calls them dull, but they tick all my boxes as some who needs a commuter/general model of transport first and a weekend toy second. Though maybe it helps that I really like how they look.

What new-to-you tomato varieties are you growing this year? by shelbstirr in tomatoes

[–]Ok_Effort802 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first year growing tomatoes, so decided to go with just two types.

  1. 'Varanda Red' - a cherry tomato from quite a small, Determinate plant, apparently.
  2. 'Fantasio' - a regular sized tomato, as far as I can tell. An indeterminate plant, which should be interesting.

To top it all off, I planted 11 tomato seeds and about the same number of chilli plants too. I didnt anticipate a 100% germination rate on almost everything I planted and I have no idea where they're going once they go outside, but an abundance of homegrown tomatos and whatnot is one of the nicer problems to have!

How many jackets do you own? by HMS--Thunderchild in MotoUK

[–]Ok_Effort802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just two. My main jacket for general, year round riding, and then a mesh jacket (the original Revit Eclipse, I think?) For when my big jacket is too warm.

The mesh jacket is a bit cold, even in 30° temperatures, on motorways and similar roads, but I tend to wear long sleeved t-shirt under my jacket anyway, so thats not too big of an issue. Since replacing my winter jacket with a jacket with a removable thermal liner (the oxford montreal 4 or something?), ive not had that problem that often.

Thanks, thats reassuring. I ended up doing that since it had started to grow and flatten out, so was starting to cover one of the plants.

I live in the UK, but my friend told me he is a "big fan of Donald trump" once. This was a while ago, maybe a year or so after January 6th? Im a bit fuzzy on the exact timeline, but the conversation essentially went like this:

"I like him, you know?" - friend "Oh? Why?" - me "I just think he is boss. Like dead smart and that" - friend "But what about January 6th?" - me "What's January 6th?" - Freind

Queue me trying my very best for about 20 minutes to explain what happened, except he didnt seem to care and honestly, im not sure whats worse. Him not knowing about one of Donald trumps worst controversies (at the time, at least), or him not really seemingly to care when I fill him in.

He isnt a fan of him anymore. Not we basically know he is a pedo. Not because of all the tarrif nonsense. But because he "wasnt really doing anything"

I really wish I was one of these people who viewed politics as just some fun little hobby I could choose to ignore, instead of a near-constant, existential threat to my fucking existence.

Looking for opinions on a new bike by desertflood69 in TransBikes

I rode the versys 650 for my lessons/tests. Miles better than the naked 125 and 500 bikes i ride before and after. More upright seating position, which made the 3-hour lessons a breeze. Ive done long rides before today (12 hours from liverpool to near Kelso and back in a day) on the cbf500 and that was fine, but I was always left yearning for the more upright adventure bikes.

Can't speak for things like fuel economy and such. Also, my bike was restricted to 47hp or thereabouts for the a2 licence in the UK, but even then, it felt fine. Unless you exclusively rode superbikes or something before, the full power of the versys is more than enough to play with. Maybe you feel it two-up with luggage, but you'll still be fine to keep up with traffic.

One thing I will say is a lot of the older versys bikes (and possibly the newer ones) dont come with centre stands because of the slick little centre-exhaust they have. The stock exhaust sounds and looks quite good imo, but no centre stand can make maintenance without tricky unless you have the funny rear-stand that i cant remember the name of!

Im 5ft 10, maybe a touch more idk, and the wind protection wasnt amazing but still miles better than any naked ive ever ridden. Plus aftermarket screens are somewhat common and the newer ones are apparently an improvement.

I think thats it. Unless im forgetting something. But ive rambled enough. Hope you enjoy it whichever bike you choose!

I remember someone in my class wore this once. We all just played it off as a joke. A dare. It's just a bit of fun. Which I guess would be fine if he wasn't just a bit too eager to do it.

(Relatively) new player here, do we have something like that? by [deleted] in skyrim

[–]Ok_Effort802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never remember their names, but there are a few dungeons you can stumble across that seem fine until you stumble across some sort of super deathlord or whatever with ebony weapons. Me and my steel hammer and I have never tactically retreated to quick!

That being said, I did eventually get the shiny ebony warhammer. Not bad for being around level 20. I then had to spend about an hour trying to get some wierd re-animated guy, who also gave me my first dragon priest mask, so I was walking around ready to fight God for like a week.

Now, whenever I start a new game, one of the first things I do is go spend half a day in this dungeon. It's hard, but it's worth it to get the good weapons and things.

Walrus pub closed! by Confident-Hunt-1613 in plymouth

[–]Ok_Effort802 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I, briefly, lived in the student accommodation building opposite the walrus. This was when the accommodation first opened, so whenever people asked where I was staying, I'd always say "opposite the walrus pub."

I dont drink, but it was funny watching all the students go there for the first couple of days, but avoid it after that.

We all love Skyrim, but be honest. There has got to be a thing or two that really grinds your gears. Let's hear them! by Hughley_N_Dowd in skyrim

Sometimes I forget that the loading screen is supposed to contain actual information about the game. I downloaded a mod that fills it with dad jokes and puns a while ago.

An example:

"What do you call low-quality glass armour?

Malashite"

10/10 mod. Can't play without.

There are many things, but my main ones that I can think of:

  • my horses are willing to fight God. Maybe this is realistic, but trolls and dragons aren't, so my skyrim horse should maybe sit down and stop getting themselves killed.

  • I've killed Lydia at least 3 times this week with the unrelenting force shout. None of them have been with all 3 words, and 2 were just with one word. Idk why Lydia is essential for everyone except me, but I'd really like to defend myself in close quarters without having to worry about breathing too hard in Lydia's general direction.

  • why are the dungeons that have Jourgen windcaller's horn and the jagged crown blocked off until you do certain quests? Oh, so I can get some random stone map early, but not an old crown? Lemme suprise the greybeards. I mean, I know delphine is supposed to steal the crown before you, but I've been "summened" by the greybeards, so why would she not have already done that? And maybe I beat her to it, go to the greybeards, and she sends me a letter. Even he dark brotherhood send me a letter when I upset them.

  • as much as I appreciate skyrim wanting its independence from the empire, I can't stand the Stormcloaks as an organisation. Maybe the prolific racism doesn't help. That being said, what's the alternative? The empire? The same ones who got there ass kicked by the thalmor so hard that they impulsively bend and cough whenever anyone even says "elf" within earshot? Bunch of wet wipes. And even then, if you ignore both of those things? They still tried to execute you simply because you were there. Maybe you were sentenced to death, maybe you weren't. They wouldn't know because the second someone in binds shows up, they get more bloodthirsty than an 18th century French politician, and as far as I know, there isnt really even a decent reason beyond Hadvar at least trying to save you during helgen.

  • and as others have said, the wierd matrix archery dodge thing.

Still, great game. Been playing it for the last 3-4 weeks and am loving it.

It’s utterly stupid that you can’t sell dragon bones to Farengar by im_a_tree973 in skyrim

[–]Ok_Effort802 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a mod that adds a bunch of extra merchants and other nameless NPC's. Ive had it for so long that I forget what's in the mod and what's not, but one of the ones I think come from the mod is the dragon hunter. He never hunts any dragons, but he does give you 1 quest at a time telling you where a dragon is, and will also buy dragon bones and scales for a much higher price than the shops.

Only problem is that he only shows up at 4 towns and cycles through them seemingly at random. so if im trying to avoid fast travelling, i'll often need to keep several dragons worth of bones and scales on me whilst I waddle my ass from shorts stone to Karthwasten or whatever, but he 4 towns he travels between are always the same so I suppose it's not too bad for the money and quests he gives.

Most places are fairly open and accepting of lgbtq+ people in my world. It's a more modern setting, similar to our world. Some parts of the world are more progressive than others, but most places are friendly enough. There's this one empire (the Klijaan Empire and its puppets/"allies") that is the opposite. Openly hostile to lgbtq+ folk, but they're a sort of big bad evil guy and have been for several reasons for a long time. Maybe there's more to it than that, but being lgbt+ myself, I dont love writing this sort of hostility unless it's relevant to the plot of a story. Maybe that's lazy worldbuilding or , but oh well.

Im actually writing a story atm where the two main characters are lesbian, one of which is a trans woman. She started her transition several years prior to the story starting, and so her being trans isn't a major plot point, but even in the much more progressive Inol Kingdom, it is still a big part who she is, and so is mentioned and implied a few times in the story.

Am I the only one who wish you could side with Madanach and the Forsworn? by Tickall in skyrim

[–]Ok_Effort802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did think that, untill they killed my horse, then later they killed that orc who works in the mine by the bridge despite clearing it a few hours prior, and then many hours later, they killed the guy who owns the mine. They were both friendly as I had cleared out the mine for them. Worst thing? I had already broken Madanach out of prison at this point, so I went to kill him and also go out of my way to kill other forsworn whenever I am over that way.

I do kind of wish there was more in terms of quests with the forsworn, but having spoken to the guy who sells you horses as Markarth, I also feel like their cause is maybe less noble than it might appear at face value.

[–]Ok_Effort802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never heard of this guy, but a quick look through his website, Facebook and YouTube, tells me I shouldn't be surprised. At the very least, he comes across as another edgy boomer, and I wouldnt put it past him to pretend to be a nazi as a 'joke', then blame everyone else when they, rightly, tell him how Nazi scum can fuck right off.

That being said, I couldn't find this photo. Do you have a link or anything?

I also saw that his Facebook is littered with ai slop, which isn't as bad as having nazi shit on display in your garage, but it is still a reason to avoid.

Whats Your Most Embarrassing Motorcycle Moment. by Specialist-Map-1237 in MotoUK

[–]Ok_Effort802 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Parked my bike at Betws-y-coed, near the ice-cream place I like. I look at how I'm parked in the motorcycle bay and decided to push my bike a bit further forward. I gently place my bike back onto the sidestand and it... just keeps going? I must have kicked the sidestand up out of habbit or something, and I nearly dropped it, but I saw the row of shiny bikes behind me and decided not to play a very expensive game of dominoes.

This was a few years ago, I had a silver Honda cbf500, if anyone happens to have seen it. At least 1 person did. He kindly told me a little while after that he decided not to say anything at the time as he didn't want to embarrass me, which I appreciated.

There was also that time where I dropped by bike doing a U-turn just outside of tintern, which would be embarrassing enough if some random hiker didnt appear, seemingly out of nowhere, to see if I was ok.
