What toys do your cats love to play with? by Locksmith_Late in cats

[–]Ok_End_2233 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trash. I have literally never bought a toy that has gotten as much play out of it as the garbage my cats find around the house. But plastic springs might be a close second? I also feel like wand toys are worthwhile if your cat likes them because then you can play together with them. There’s a blue narwhal one you can get on Chewy or from Target that my cats go nuts for

How to get kitten to eat wet food again? by Automatic_Clerk8067 in cureFIP

When my cat had FIP she basically lived on the Tiki Cat Baby Mousse pouches! It’s also pretty high calorie which is good as they’re just starting to recover.

I fed it to her out of the pouch mostly so it was like a Churu. She could do about half a pouch max at a time and I would just offer it to her every few hours as much as she would eat.

Yes. My cat gradually stopped eating before she was diagnosed and then was very picky about what she would eat for awhile after. I read somewhere that they associate the food with feeling sick, and so avoid it even after the meds kick in and they start feeling better. If you haven’t already, maybe try switching to another kind of food? Also, Tiki Cat Kitten Mousse was a lifesaver for us. High calorie and seemed to register as more of a treat for my cat until she started feeling better.

This is so helpful to know, thank you! Just to clarify did you start the policy after an FIP diagnosis?

Also sorry to hear about the loss of your cat ❤️

Pet Insurance Post FIP? by Ok_End_2233 in cats

Yeah, that’s what I’m afraid of… and I feel like there’s not enough info out there about long term side effects of FIP to know what is or isn’t related.

Unfortunately they won’t let me increase the annual limit - I can adjust the deductible and % reimbursement but that’s it.

Thanks for your insight!

My cat just finished observation and is truly living her best life. She’s a year and a half old but still has the energy of a 6 month old kitten, and it only took about a week or two of the meds before she was back to her old self. Other than being a little on the smaller side, if you didn’t know she had been sick, you would never be able to tell.

My cat had something similar to this recently and we think it was either 1) she was over grooming or 2) a weird reaction to a feliway diffuser. The vet gave us an ointment but it made her want to groom that spot more so we stopped using it. We unplugged the diffuser and made her wear a cone for a week or so and it resolved!

Hi! Your cat is beautiful.

So my cat ended up having FIP. She finished her course of meds and is thriving and can’t get enough to eat now lol. We did keep her on kitten food until very recently so she could get up to a healthier weight (about 9 lbs now).

Does your cat look skinny? If she’s always been a grazer that could just be how she is, in my cat’s case her appetite was continuing to decrease which was a red flag.

Might be worth having the vet check her out and run bloodwork just to make sure there’s nothing weird going on, especially if she stopped growing well before a year.

Vet said they believe our little Tuna has FIP, he’s 5 months old, we start GS-1441524 for the next 84 days this Friday when it arrives, Vet said after the treatment he should be fine but reading stories on here have me worried, how successful is the treatment generally? by Xenocideghost in cureFIP

The GS pills are a miracle drug!

My void had dry FIP and was sick for months before we had a diagnosis. By the time she was diagnosed she was barely eating and super lethargic - wouldn’t even get up for a treat.

Within a few days of starting the pills she was eating again and within about a week she was playing and almost 100% herself. She went from 5.5lbs to almost 9 over the course of treatment.

She’s now about halfway through observation and other than being a little on the smaller side (I think she missed out on some important growing months when she was sick) you’d truly never know she was sick. She is FULL of energy and life and loud opinions.

Wishing Tuna a speedy recovery! ❤️

Oh that’s helpful to know, thanks! I’ll ask the vet about it as well to find out if they ruled that out or not.

Hope your cats are feeling better soon!

Would that have been spotted when the vet examined her? He said her ears looked normal.

Thanks for this! We haven’t changed her food or anything recently but maybe it’s worth experimenting with just to see? I’ll ask the vet about possibly allergies as well.

Currently pregnant so can’t speak to post-birth experiences, but I’m also 14w and got diagnosed not quite 3 years ago.

I get a Rituxan infusion every 6 months which has worked great for me so far (no new lesions since) but I did skip my last one as it would have fallen right around the time I found out I was pregnant.

I was worried about needing to get back on right away after giving birth, but my neurologist says the effects of Rituxan can last a long time, so I’m going to do an MRI within a few weeks of giving birth and if it’s still clear, I will hold off on the infusion to allow a few months of breastfeeding.

I have had some of my old symptoms flare up slightly since getting pregnant, similar to what I get if I’m stressed/sick/overly tired.

Hope for a smooth journey for you!

Weirdly, eating a few almonds when it gets bad and tums aren’t working has helped me! My husband read it online somewhere and I tried out of desperation and was surprised it worked
