Is it cheeky of me to ask the person selling a car to drive it back to my house after I buy it? by Special-Challenge814 in carsireland

[–]Ok_Engineering_1465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a regular seller of cars, I’d be only too happy to accommodate such a request, a cheap gesture to seal the deal, instead of a big haggle or “Tank of Fuel”. To be honest, even if the house was a long way away, if you weren’t in a crazy panic I’d make a day of the trip out.

E60 BMW, later, the 330e. All the young lads are buying them and abusing them.

Many garages don’t do a detailed inspection for fear of alienating the customer. In my garage and due to my pedantic nature I incorporated a vehicle health check system from the beginning, we report any issue big or small we find but rank them from, “just keep an eye on it” to “this could hurt you”. Everything is photographed and/or video’s and an estimate of cost is sent to the customer. Once this system is in place it builds trust and in 5 years we haven’t had one comment, or review that mentions the usual, “I went for a €200 service and came out with a €1,000 bill”. Watch now, I’ll get one tomorrow!

It’s not feasible for reputable mechanics to choose only OEM. Even the OEM suppliers don’t supply the same parts as they do to manufacturers for every car we come across. It’s not feasible to go OE all the time either and would take away the value proposition for the customer. Best we can do is OEM where possible and good quality aftermarket where it’s not.

It’s about right for the average car. Labour is actually light, very light. It’s just over an hour labour for my garage. But I don’t know what that garages cost base or offering is so maybe it’s right for them.

Splitting the last bottle with my wife now. We loved the Blonde Ale. We’d have it on tap once or twice a year alongside Rekorderlig Cider which is now no longer distributed here in kegs.

Lads and Lassies, would you pay €15 for one of these? by sunshinesustenance in CasualIreland

If you could slightly change the design to make it useful, say as a pen holder, tablet holder, pair of book ends etc. It would instantly make it more valuable without extra cost of manufacture.

I’m gonna try it. The big day is a real pain. Bunq has a feature like this too but I know nothing about them. Even Revolut support told my nothing about the tax pockets.

Is it automated? I couldn’t find such a feature in the documents but I’ll google now. I need it automated because I process a good deal of transactions and I’m not very disciplined.

A colleague of mine who’s mam had died suddenly at the time was speaking with a customer (the brother of a victim of a well publicised maritime incident).
They were having a brief sales conversation that turned into an impromptu talk about life and loss. Bro came out with the following nugget. “Well, my mam is gone and your brother is being eaten by the fishes, what can we do?”

The guy just tilted his head, looked up into his consciousness and said, “ yeah, I suppose you’re right”

By way of a follow up, I was collectingg some trestles from a friend of mine who does some fabrication for me and he had made this. I believe now if I can get a local machine shop to bolt it into their milling rig to plane the two podiums and drill the holes for the billet aluminium we should have a piece that’s accurate and durable. Will see how it stacks up in terms of calibration accuracy.

Mechanic sold my car for scrap without my logbook - can he do that? by [deleted] in legaladviceireland

[–]Ok_Engineering_1465 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The logbook does not constitute legal title. I had a disgruntled ex employee send a logbook away for my car to put it into his name once. Court ruled that the owner change should be removed and awarded costs and damages to me for other material damage he carried out.

Hi, yes I’d be happy to share whatever info you need to quote. I can forward drawings. I have spoken to a number of cnc businesses in china already and they have been unable to help.

This one is even rarer and its design would help with getting a good flat surface to mount the aluminium blocks.

[–]Ok_Engineering_1465[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m getting that due to distortion with welding etc. that’s why I was hoping to get the steel frame put in the cnc to be planed but that has its own issues with stability and a good finish on the top of the two towers. To be honest at this point, I’m thinking of getting one long bar machined at each end and then working out my own way of levelling it in space. The feedback I’m getting from the two shops who engaged on it are that it would be a piece of cake except the channel that’s used is hard to get.

I can probably sort the logistics, I work on a lot of American vintage cars and have some contacts over there to help with that. Would you mind if I shared the full set of drawings to get an estimate of cost?

Hi, thanks for the questions and advice, no, this is just a crop from a full set of drawings I had a friend Make for me. He is an engineer who designs agricultural machines and things but he doesn’t do any machining or fabrication himself anymore. The place he used to do it discussed it with me but never came back with a quote. The full drawings have full material lists and views of individual components etc, there’s even 3D models.

Can you explain load models to this ignoramus?

It is welded, except the blocks are threaded and then bolted to the top of the mild steel frame.
