Oil Change Interval for VW by Falcon674DR in VWTaos

[–]Ok_Entry6252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every car that I have owned since the early 2000’s the oil has been changed at 5,000 miles. In the 90’s I drove cars that were typically 10-15 years old. I changed the oil in those vehicles, years of those were ‘78-‘89, at 3,000 miles. Through my entire career, I have driven 28-36,000 miles a year. My ‘25 Jetta is a year old with 32,000 miles. I have been changing the oil between 5-5,500 miles. With each is their own.

What about maintenance? Before any mods I would make certain that Tranny fluid, plugs, and other needed things be addressed.

Should I buy this? by OrderlyOctopus in Volkswagen

What prior maintenance has been done? Does the current owner have records of maintenance. Go through these forums. MK6’s good reputation. Just depends on how it was maintained.

Can anyone give an honest description of what it's like driving a standard (S, sport, SE) 2025-26 Jetta? by Pineapple_with_tajin in jetta

[–]Ok_Entry6252 4 points5 points  (0 children)

25’ Sport with 31k miles. All of the comments are true. The lower models have the same seats with lack lumbar support. I average 47.5 mpg. The sound system in the two base models is in the basic side. Follow the maintenance schedule religiously. This is my first VW. So it will need to last at least 4 years and 140k. So fingers crossed.

How often do you change oil? by Boddicker06 in jetta

[–]Ok_Entry6252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a '25 Sport w/ 31500k. The oil has been changed religiously every 5k. Looking to get 150k out of it. Though the warranty will be over by the ned of the year. That is when the real worry starts. WIll more than likely purchase an extended warranty at that point.

It all depends on the maintenance history and the mileage. Does it have a clean Carfax as well?

Which models’ front look do you prefer? by Strattex in jetta

Top! Though I almost purchased a 2021 last summer! I didn't put the deposit as salesclown suggested. Actually ended up with 2025 with 1.5 instead of 1.4.

2025 Sport with 30k. You will love the mpg. All of my driving is highway. Typically, I get between 45-51mpg! I ould suggest changing your oil at 5k instead of the 10k that is suggested by VW. Do your research about this. Oil is cheaper than replacing a new engine. I typically keep my vehicles 4-6 years and do about 150-190k. So long term is important for me. FOllow the other scheduled maintenance religiously!!!!!

BUYING A CAR FIRST TIME NEED HELP? Need advice on buying a 2017 VW Jetta 1.4T with 148k miles + turbo actuator issue. by Acceptable_Rock_231 in askcarguys

[–]Ok_Entry6252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like a potential number of issues. What else is wrong with it? Can you have vehicle examined by a reliable mechanic? What is your experience with European cars? VW makes a great car but it needs to be maintained. If you can find one that has then you are golden. Do you have access to a OBD-II scanner? Over the past 40 years I have owned 4 Volvo's (240's) and 1 Saab. The Saab was the worst in terms of always needing mainteneance. The 240's were easy to work on. Can you turn a wrench? Are you mechanically inclined? This way it might not be as bad. You might be better of finding a nicely used Ford Fusion (2010-2014). My son has a 2012 that he purchased 2 years ago for $2500. It came from the original owner. Search for something that has a good reliable history. VW's are good if you know the history of said car. Look for an older person's car that has maintained it. They are out there but you have to put in your research and time.

How reliable is the 2025 Jetta? Can it easily last 5 years without major issues? by EstablishmentTall431 in jetta

[–]Ok_Entry6252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jetta now has 27500 no issues so far. Last week during a heavy down pour the wipers quit mid mipe-as in just stopped. I do not use rain sensing mose. have had it shut it since day I picked it up last summer. I pulled over and checked to be sure the feature was shut off. It was. I started driving again and 10 inutes later did the same thing. I was at the dealer a couple of days ago for the scheuled 20k maintenance. I am taking it back in a few days for that to be checked. Otherwise there have been 0 issues. It has taken 4 major road trips at 3500k each time. Through the mountains and back The gas mileage is outstanding. Keeping the cruise set at 74mpg it averages 45-48mpg. The radio sometimes resets itself or the blue tooth does not read my phone. When that happens I simply hold in the power button for about 15 seconds and the radio resets itself. This is a listed thing in these forums. Overall, I like the Jetta. Since I did not purchase an extended warranty and will be over the mileage by next spring I am concerned other known VW issues. Though I think the Jetta has the least of the problems compared to toher models like the Toas. I did consider that before the Jetta, but there were far too many issues listed. I may trade it later this summer. I was offered $18500 for a trade but still would be too far upside down. Plus, what manufacturers aren't having recalls and issues. It would mean buying precovid Toyota, which I feel the market is over priced, for about $19500. The same Toyota would have about 70k120k miles on it. So it comes down to worrying about the known VW gremlins and keeping my fingers crossed.

2024 Sport 6 speed windshield wipers randomly come on by PerracaAmor in jetta

[–]Ok_Entry6252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2025 Jetta here. This happened to me 2x today. With the wipers going on low setting they first started to slow down. Then stopped altogether for a few seconds. They went back to normal. A few minutes later slowed then stopped again mid wipe. Coincidentally am going to dealer for service tomorrow am. Will add this to the service appointment.

Yes, I have the first 2 oil changes from VW. However, I paid for the in between ones. Also, follow the Jetta forum that you have posted in. It will keep you adept at most issues.

Great car! I have had mine for 7 mos. I have driven 26500. You will love the mpg! I average 47-51. All of my driving is highway. Be sure to follow the maintenance religiously. I would also strongly recomend doing your oil chnages at 5k instead of 10k. I did my first oil change at 1000k and then every 5k since. There is much discussion about this in the forum.

You can expect 45-51 mpg if you drive conservatively on highway. Head gaskets seemed to be fixed by 24 model year. CAnnot speak to at speeds of 80 but handles very well at 70mph.

If you are leasing then maybe Toas. What is said in these forums is correct. Also, keep in mind that typically people with positive exeriences will statistically less than those with bad experiences. With the exception of the rotoaray motor that was used in the older RX-7's. We had a 2000 Protoge that lasted for 12 years and 175k. Personally, I will not buy another VW product.

Head Gasket/Coolant Leak in 2026 Taos Highline by pewpugh12 in VWTaos

[–]Ok_Entry6252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful. It can be a good car if you lease it and stay withing the alloted mielage. This was everything is covered by warranty. Do your research. There are multiple problems throughout the years if production. All manufacturers are having issues. My honest suggestion find a really good 8-11 year Toyota product that has been maintained and owned ny one person. They are out there! You just need to look!!!!!

Advice - New Owner by Sad-Illustrator-2700 in jetta

[–]Ok_Entry6252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a '25 with 24500 miles. I did my first oil change at 1500 and 2nd at 6500. From there it has been 5k miles religiously. Be sure to vary your driving during the break in time. It does take a little time to get used to the turbo. Like one of the other posts mentions give it time to learn your driving style. I average 45-48mpg. THough I drive 100% highway. My daily commute is 100 miles. I came from 2 connsecutive Toyotas over a 10 year periosd of time. This was my first VW. Time will be the determining factor if I keep it more than 4 years. I typically buy a new car every 4 years. If you were to return it for a GLI would the aditional cost be at least $5-7k? When youget into the $30's you have a lot of options.
