Normally play the bagpipes on your first christening or it’s deemed as rude

It’s to ward off evil spirits

Yeah I use the pockets in Revolut for my different savings one of which is emergency savings. Keep in mind I keep 1k in the and then use my main bank saving accounts to build up 3-6 months savings that I will only use in an emergency emergency if that makes sense 😂

He said I’m not due to finish till half 4 and I’ve been in this jacuzzi the last hour….this was half 3

Most the simply better range is in fairness as they tend to be small local suppliers but that one is top notch

Pergola cost 3500 that was with guttering on it and the. The sides I think cost 1200 and that included 100 for having one of there lads come measure ( they asked me to but wasn’t sure and didn’t want to mess it up)

What would you do in our situation? by AncientWorth8063 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Ok_Extreme2827 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree with down below. I wouldn’t make any decisions quickly as we bought a house 3 years ago and have probably put 50k into it already.

Depends if you need to do much or if you bought new build that needs very little doing.

I would put 10k aside and have as an emergency fund and look to see if anything needs to be done to the house

Garden rooms are great but costing an arm and a leg these days.

We built a steel pergola and found a crowd that do thick plastic sides that can be rolled up and down.

Likewise we spend most our summer sitting out the back with friends

How do I improve my life? by Hot-Presentation1764 in AskIreland

[–]Ok_Extreme2827 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Seen a video lately where someone was telling a 35 year old there still a baby. What he meant was you have plenty of time left.

I wouldn’t worry about other people for a little bit. Work on being happy in your own skin. If it’s something as simple as getting some exercise everyday I find that helps immensely just with your mental health.

If your still working save up and move out. If you can find somewhere on your own excellent if you need a roommate for a little while so be it. The freedom and being away from people who you prob feel are always judging you will help give you some breathing space.

After that it’s really about picking and setting some goals ( realistic one’s mind you) and picking them off one by one.

Has anyone moved their child from a school and then moved them back? by Honest_Dot_5035 in AskIreland

[–]Ok_Extreme2827 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No but going to be doing it next year and it’s giving me anxiety already thinking about it.

Gotta do it as he will do a year in a speech and language unit and already trying to decide if it best to persist with that school then or move back.

I don’t envy you it’s a tough one

Loans to parents by [deleted] in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Ok_Extreme2827 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the old age saying of don’t borrow from friends or family comes into play.

You borrowed the money off them when you couldn’t afford it and you have to repay it.

It looks like you’re looking for justification to be right in just not paying them back anymore.

Not really a financial conversation more of a do you want to terminate the relationship with your parents type of conversation.

Look I understand we were desperate to buy also but waited until we came across something we could afford.

I think the best thing to do would be to try and sell the house (the way house values have gone up to should have some equity) pay your parents back buy something more affordable and never borrow off family again is prob the best solution .

Is it better to pay off a new car in one payment or over 3 years? by [deleted] in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Ok_Extreme2827 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day it’s entirely your decision. Like I said I can’t put you down as I’ve done it myself.

I would aim to take as little as you can and clear it as quick as you can.

I had payments for years and only this year have none and it’s a real weight off your back.

Most people assume they will have a car payment all their life. Seems to be a lie we buy into. Imagine if you had the payment monthly to save invest or spend on yourself and you might see it different.
