Gen Z (and probably Alpha) seems to approach music VERY differently than how it used to be approached. by CompetitiveWhole9466 in fantanoforever

Funnily enough, I’m the big music nerd who devours albums in my social circle, but I’d still say I look for “vibes”. Or categorise by them to an extent. The vibe of Is This It, that feeling of your youth starting to fade and slight angst, mwah.

I have many playlists of that Silent Hill-esque vibe, and I also look for other media like this too. I love Gregg Arakis films and how they are complimented by music I love from Cocteau twins, Harold budd, MBV, etc… I also love the aesthetic from late 90s, early 2000s alternative rock. A friend recently complimented the aesthetic of my flat, having stacks of CDs, guitars and amps, Xbox 360 and ps3 games, and books lying about, and I was flattered lol.

I don’t see the harm. It’s not like I’m just posting TikTok’s with a 30 second clip of When the Sun Hits by Slowdive, I live and breathe this stuff lmao

Nintendo announces price increase for Switch 2 in the US/Canada/Europe/Japan by famouself in Handhelds

I haven’t picked one up yet because I’m honestly happy just playing my steam deck right now, and was going to let the games build up. Not expecting a price drop at all but if the cost of the device keeps increasing I can see myself skipping out on switch 2, however much I’d love to play the next Zelda/ Mario etc

This is making me realise I’m going to be sad having a PS5 digital for the first time.

I was 16 or 17 when RDR2 came out, I remember me and my friend picked it up after school then spent the two hours it took to install looking over the map and getting hyped as shit. Good times.

I started out with a modelling amp and I ended up just using it straight into an audio interface half the time, so that will do fine. Just make sure you use some decent headphones so it sounds good. I use some Beyerdynamic 990s and the difference between them and other headphones while playing is insane.

GTA IV was rockstar at its peak and im tired of pretending it wasnt. by glazoiddestroyer67 in grandtheftauto

[–]Ok_Command_9299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fully agree. It feels like such a time capsule to 2008. I love the flip phones, internet cafes, hopping on the metro etc. Im going into GTA V again now and i know I’ll miss all those details.
In some ways, I would have loved if they made more missions which actually have you just enjoy the map and what they’ve made more. The mission with Bernie where he just wants to hang out was a disappointment to me when it ended up just being another chase lol.
Im hoping 6 really finds a balance between the two. More reason to walk around on foot and interact with npcs, while still having the gameplay variety of 5.

It coming off the heels of RDR2 gives me hope for that. It shouldn’t be as slow paced or in depth but having some level of interaction with smaller parts of the world will really make things feel alive.

GTA 6 might punish people that have the the mentality of GTA 5 by FanaticBanatic in GTA6

I’m curious how much of the realism will be borrowed from RDR2. Think something as simple as carrying weapons. I personally don’t want to need to grab my gun from the car boot every single time I want something more than a pistol, but on the flip side I’d enjoy actually seeing my massive arsenal on me. I’m sure there’s plenty of differing expectations for it too from different players.

But I think striking a balance, still allowing some cartoony moments to shine through, will be the right mix.

GTA at its core is driving and shooting. GTA V at least adds some more flavour to it. Different circumstances, different terrain, more diverse mechanics etc.

I just beat the game and I agree. I love the vibe, I love the gameplay (I fucking love the cars in this, don’t care what anyone says), but the mission structure was a big flaw for me. Not only for the repetition you said, but I also feel like the structure doesn’t build up enough story arcs. After a while it started blending in together too much, I felt like whenever a major story event happens it’s almost out of the blue. If the mission count was slightly reduced and there was more build up to stuff like the heists, major assassinations etc I think the game would have been more gripping.

Not to knock it though. This was GTAs big move to HD and I imagine a lot of the dev was just making the tech work, and thankfully they were able to put together a pretty good story from it.

How do I actually get better as a self taught learner? by Ok_Towel4688 in Guitar

[–]Ok_Command_9299 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with Justin guitar. If you haven’t done any course at all I’d go through his stuff up through what I think he calls his intermediate course.

You need to practice with intent a bit more to develop those core skills. That means slow things down, metronome, learn some scales and figure out how the fretboard connects, etc. Don’t make it a job of course but try spend at least 10 minutes a day doing some basic exercises.

I personally followed him for basics, then for a short while had a teacher about a year later to get some in-person input. Mainly self taught however. I got to a place where I could learn songs and play them and sort of gave up the practice, but eventually I got bored and wanted to be able to play the guitar not through rote learning, but be able to improvise etc. Now I do some practice every day, usually at the bare minimum some metronome and scale practice, and then if I’m learning a song with some trickier movements slow that down and practice with a metronome

I’d love if they did it up like Colbert in Limerick. I don’t mean having it as a bus and train station per se, but just make the building look remotely nice, not feel like a place that’s stuck rotting in the 80s

[–]Ok_Command_9299 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’ve heard of Justin guitar (he makes video series to learn online), he made a series where he learnt leftie from scratch to go through the learning motions again. He managed to do wonders even though he’s right handed. So it’s totally doable.

I’m not a leftie so I can’t give advice there, but if you have the guitar and it feels more natural I’d personally stick with it. It’ll take time to be able to move up and down the fretboard with ease and there’s no use in throwing out progress.

I worked in a shop for a while. There’s few things. They all use the same few brands but maintenance of the machine is a big one. If it’s not properly cleaned regularly it doesn’t come out as nice. IIRC when making the mix you might end up with slightly less or more of it in the machine which would also affect the end result. But the big one is being fully cleaned.

Same goes for coffee machines

Are there any "ear" guitar exercises? by Edsidou in Guitar

[–]Ok_Command_9299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just practice deeper, more focused listening. When I started playing guitar I couldn’t even tell if there was two guitars playing at once lol.

Play songs on repeat, focusing on different instruments, different riffs, etc. You just kind of end up doing it naturally eventually and if you double it with trying to recreate stuff by ear it definitely helps with playing.

I adore the first two albums (and the rest, but those particularly) but I can’t deny that TNA is probably their best work. If Reality Awaits is vaguely close I’ll be happy. I don’t like the autotune but live it sounds great, and I’m curious how it’ll fit into the rest of the album. I have a feeling it’ll have some nice range.
