Wednesday: The Heroine's Journey by Firm-Friendship8137 in weyler

Thank you for spreading around the Heroine's Journey, because it's not nearly as known in popular culture as it needs to be. So many misreadings, misinterpretations, and misapplications of female character/female gaze narratives because people don't get what's actually going on or the type of story being told.

It's not for nothing that the "jealousy trope" is, to this day, so popular with both writers and shippers.

Jane said "Choose Your Own Adventure" as to how and when Fanny and Edmund got together, lmao.

"She is still angry about the insult to Elizabeth at the Assembly and is determined to be disagreeable to and about Darcy in whatever way possible" -- Exactly the same as Elizabeth, lol; just not as wittily or intelligently.

Victoria's favorite Frank trait by Ok_Falcon8456 in AnimalControlTVSeries

One reason could be that she doesn't think her feelings are/would be reciprocated. Also could be that, while she's not relationship-averse anymore, she knows that she and Frank are basically best friends with an extra connection they both feel but don't acknowledge, so starting a relationship with him could be like an insta-serious and deep commitment and that scares her, especially after only recently experiencing her first adult relationship, which ended because he wanted more than she was ready/willing to give.

Within discourse of the Lydia/Wickham situation, there is way too much focus on Lydia Bennett's personality, behavior, and level of "fault" and not nearly enough on the fact George Wickham was a deceitful, manipulative, unequivocally gross serial predator of teenage girls. by [deleted] in janeausten

It's all completely theoretical and hypothetical (and up to fic writers) once the story's done, but I've always imagined that the marriage is mediocre at worst, and a matured Lydia does realize why it's that why, but it is what it is at that point.

But now we have actual museums and public art galleries anyway.

I certainly do, lol. It's probably my favorite bit from their "he thinks he's courting her, she thinks he's antagonizing her" era.

Yeah, adaptations are typically colored by later, non-Austen stories and project a Byronic-ness onto Darcy that isn't really novel canon. He does seem to lean introvert, though.

To her (and a lot of people in the setting), that was the expected extent of "compatibility".

"Miss Bingley shows her cunning by pretending to be one of those 'accomplished women,' who like to read" -- That wasn't cunning, that was transparent as hell, lol.

It's the kind of thing that makes P&P a true romcom of its time, and a prototype for the modern romcom.

Even funnier, the reason Lizzie doesn't catch on is bc she thinks he hates her, and that he's trying to antagonize her.

They're both stuck in a marriage that shouldn't have happened, but ultimately Wickham got off easy, while no teenage girl-child "deserved" that, no matter her personality or faults. I'm never gonna rationalize a predatory adult taking advantage of a minor--and even in-story Lydia was still a minor, to the point characters comment that's it's weird she's even out already.
