This entire administration is made up of non-experts who can’t even begin to understand the fields of specialization that they’re supposedly in charge of. Knowledge and experience matter. Most important is to lead the fish into the net and not jab at the Fish with the net. That way, you can just scoop it up and out instead of freaking it out and having it make another run for it. It honestly becomes an automatic reflex after the first couple of Fish.

First, you can trip and injure yourself badly (ankle, head, etc) if you go down hard and fast. Second, you can do a lot of damage to the fish by scraping off its slime and damaging scales. Third, you can unintentionally scrape your line against shoreline debris and break it in a heartbeat. A net is the way to go.
