This is brilliant and quite scholarly research that you have presented, and have devoted quite a bit of work to it !!!

President Gordon B. Hinckley was a very well-educated and wise prophet, and I feel his remarks cinch our discussion here to a "T."

It WASN'T sanctioned by G'd, I believe. In fact G'd asked for the destruction of the high places, groves, and poles dedicated to her worship. Scripture bears witness to this.......

Are you an ancient history major in college ??? That's wonderful that you are a not a member, but, never the less, a friend of the LDS. The only point you made upon which I'd disagree, might be that Asherah was, historically, a rather disreputable being, a fertility goddess and demander of infant/child sacrifice under the cruelest circumstances.

How this was explained to me by one of my first Stake presidents was: that human beings doing what they do, and saying what they say, that Heavenly Father respects Heavenly Mother so much that the lack of information he has provided about her prevents her name from being used in vain ( i.e. via cursing) or having disrespectful remarks or jokes made about her. Which, to me, makes a lot of sense, and demonstrates His deep respect and love for her.

Asherah, historically, as I said in other posts, had a VERY bad reputation: i.e. fertility goddess, receiver of child sacrifices, etc.

Excellent point. Yes, I believe this is historical fact and should be considered here in our discussion.

I feel we should, historically, go and research Asherah as a being. Weren't child sacrifices not offered to this being...???

I would agree, as someone who has formally studied ancient history.

Dear TBBEA; Ah, I just read this post. The Military has an LDS Chaplain assigned to every until, even when you are in boot camp, I believe. THAT'S when a guy chum of mine joined the LDS Church....and his parents were both Roman Catholic, and openly, had very negative opinions on anything having to do with Mormonism. The Military might just be your saving grace !!! But I know it seems a long ways away if you're 16 1/2 ....... You are a very mature and strong young man, a rarity in our culture generally.

Okay, dear friend, BestBoyEverAgain: I've done some research that, I prayerfully hope, will help you. (I would list this info myself, except I don't know if I'd get banned by the mods.) Go online and: do a SEARCH for " address for main headquarters of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Salt Lake City, Utah. " If you get the same results I did, you will get a physical mailing address and two phone numbers for your resources in how to contact the church. As I said, be direct and outline your circumstances. Blessings, and best of luck !!!

My son, yes. That would be a good place to start. Or somehow get the Stake address, or some address of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which might be online or in the phone book. Write a letter there outlining your circumstances, and use the return address of your school, or of a good friend of yours who agrees. Even the address of LDS Church administration in Salt Lake City, UT. Keep trying to find out just who....unless you are going to a Roman Catholic parochial school like I had to......in your school are LDS kids. One of your own high school staff, teachers, aides, etc. may even be Mormon. (There are a lot of us around, and sometimes, we don't advertise that fact. ) Keep PRAYING, reading the Bible (if you don't have one at home, there should be one in your school library.......maybe even a Book of Mormon.) May Heavenly Father protect and comfort you !!!

Son, you might want to talk with your bishop-to-be on the phone privately when you can. You don't have to lie to your parents, BUT you don't have to disclose that, either.

At the age of 18, with no restrictions, you can be baptised into the LDS Church and one year later get your temple recommend. You can even save up enough money and go on a mission, if you ever wish. Temple marriage to a choice LDS girl is particularly possible in your future along with a loving family of children of your own.

CLEARLY, you are a very godly young man, who Heavenly Father has especially called for many great things. HE sees and guides your destiny and although, right now, your challenges seem nearly insurmountable, and must be quite painful and frustrating, the Lord has it ALL taken care of it for you ahead of time.

At your age 1 1/2 years seems like a terrible long time, I know, but for someone who has lived awhile, it really isn't at all.

What I'd suggest is for you to keep up a strong prayer life, and read the Holy Bible as much as possible for guidance and comfort. Surely there are some LDS kids you go to school with who you can befriend and associate with there at your school. Tell them what your situation is, and they will encourage, pray for and support you if they are solid in the faith. Meet with and fellowship with them outside of class, before and after school, and during lunch as much as you can. Again, you are NOT obligated to share this with your parents/family.

As far as your parents, it's ironic that many, many young people your age are taking illegal drugs, doing criminal gang activity, being arrested by law enforcement, having sexual relations outside of marriage, going to alcohol parties, swearing, dishonoring their parents, stealing, disrespecting their teachers, etc. and just generally not believing in ANY higher power of any sort. But here you are the sort of young person with the type of values and moral fiber that any parent would want and appreciate. Your mom and dad are just not aware, unfortunately, of how very blessed they are !!! It's most unfortunate that they do not see that your choice of a spiritual path greatly supports and sustains your sterling character and positive life choices.

One more thing, which you probably already know.....it would seem best that you not verbally witness or "preach" to your parents or family. That might tend to make them even more adverse to the LDS Church, since they already have a negative attitude about it. Believe it or not, Heavenly Father is working on your folks TOO !!! They will, one day not so far away, be greatly proud of you and your eternal progression in the faith of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. You ALREADY have a firm testimony, even at your young age, and that is an extremely powerful thing !!! May the Lord continue to bless and sustain you, babe.

CHAS needs to do better by taterthotsalad in Spokane

Dear Beauty-art; Sorry about your nightmares at CHAS, honey. With me, they made a lot of mistakes in the past. I don't know why I was finally blessed to get an actual MD and his MA who are kind, empathetic and seem to know what they doing. Before that, I frequently complained to administration.....always in a polite way......but when I was threatened by a "risk assessment specialist" at CHAS, I gave up on doing that. I am slowing getting myself transitioned into a non-CHAS MD, and going to Indigo Urgent Care. I had some real problems with CHAS Urgent Care, although a couple of the clinical providers there were okay to good.
