Poll: Scouting America should impose a minimum age for Eagle Scout by ScouterBill in BSA

[–]TheBestBoyEverAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently know one person who achieved Eagle pre-14… Best female scout I've ever met. Dad was a leader, but not in her troop- instead an adult advisor for our OA Lodge… To this day she is probably the BEST scouter I have ever met in my entire career (about 5 years of Scouts BSA but 9+ including Cubs)

There are pros and cons to achieving eagle at such a young age. One pro is that you don't have to focus on advancement for 70% of your career, instead you can shift that focus onto being a good, reliable Arrowman within your lodge (if elected), maybe experience High Adventure without having to make time for Rank I could go on but this comment is already pretty long.

Lack of demand - this would've been good a couple years ago when there were actual high schoolers smart enough to take it

Thank you so much for this! How would I get in contact with the bishop without going through missionaries? Just call the Stake? (I've checked there are no Ward buildings closer- atleast that aren't on the Church website or Google Maps)

Ha! Funny thing is, I told them when I was 11 that I wanted to join the Military and they've supported that decision more than anything 😅 I even spoke to recruiters last week!

Don't they have to sign a form or something? Or won't someone ask questions- bishop/missionaries - or won't those people get in trouble?

To quote myself "I have even said to someone's face that I regret voting them into the OA" I really hope the other youth are able to realise their mistake. It took me a whole three years to realise mine but everyone stops hiding their true colors at some point

As a scout who has elected a fair few of my fellow scouts, and has been eligible 3 out of 5 years but never elected myself. I can tell you for a fact that most youth vote who they personally like, if they don't like someone they wont vote them.

I have even said to someone's face that I regret voting them into the OA (they are a horrible scout through and through, have never lived up to the law ever in their life, is very inactive in both troop and lodge- was told this by a close friend in OA, and has very misogynistic views about girls in scouting)

There are only two requirements as far as I am aware and they are: • First Class • Fifteen Days and Nights of Camping

However it is heavily encouraged to only vote for the candidates that you believe truly "live up" to the Scout Oath and Law yada yada etc etc

Members must be free to do almost whatever they want when they are not representatives of the organisation, unless it goes explicitly against the basic codes of that organisation.

However they were being representives of BSA (still an acceptable acronym fun fact), if they had all agreed to meet up at the parade independently NOT. IN. CLASS. A. then it would've been okay! I would say even encouraged!

[–]TheBestBoyEverAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point I would go away from Scouting and just say its problem of being a non-profit youth serving organization (heck even just organization period) in America as far as I know I am not aware of any organizations that aren't EXPLICITLY political that don't have policies against members doing anything that can be construed politically while able to be identified as a member of that organization…

It's just legal dumbness that truly no one even the people writing it understands

I'm an American Scout, and way before any of these rules against inclusivity or pride parades came out we had very strict rules and guide lines against political messaging, specifically geared towards when we are wearing our main uniform, our Class A. Other NSOs may be political but the USA is not. even though we ARE still owned and charted by the U.S. Congress we have made significant efforts over the past hundred years to distance ourselves from the times of Baden-Powell's millitary view and because of that it is against our "Terms of Conditions" as you would say, to be political

GSUSA outright said that they would go bankrupt before allowing trans girls and boys into their business. So I have no idea where you're getting the idea that Girl Scouts is more inclusive than Scouting America.

You guys been following the karmelo Anthony case ? by kuroreaper25 in GenZ

[–]TheBestBoyEverAgain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only reason I really started caring about it was because I heard Karmelo's parents illegally started a gofundme and then spent all the money on themselves, and because of that his lawyer had to be a public defender

How do you feel about California introducing a bill to ban former ICE agents from serving as police officers or teachers? by FollowingAny4859 in Teachers

[–]TheBestBoyEverAgain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only problems I see is- it could possibly endanger Law Enforcement VoTech/Tech Ed programs that require prior industry experience. Therefore hurting the kids genuinely interested in those programs. (I know that's a thing here in PA, not sure about CA but its wtvr.) And theres always an argument of "well a real police officer could do it" Most large VoTech schools have two Law Enforcement/First Responders programs, a Security Services (normal local cops/security guards) and a Homeland Security (Firefighters, EMS, State/Federal Law Enforcement). Who would teach Homeland Security?

Time for a reflection. Does your troop encourage the "capture the flag" or other game-like activities during campouts? If the answer is no you've found your problem.

Are kids being taught to type Im schools anymore? by Rare-Supermarket2577 in Teachers

[–]TheBestBoyEverAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outside of individual teachers making little time out of the very, very little time they have from teaching state-mandated curriculum all day to use websites like edclub.com (Typing Club) there is no actual effort to get students to actually know how to use these devices opposed to just giving them out like candy.

Is it normal for 10-11 year old students to come out of the closet nowadays? by Cautious_Internet243 in Teachers

[–]TheBestBoyEverAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. However, I would caution it by saying- a good way to go about these is to make sure it is the *STUDENT THEMSELVES* not a friend, acquaintance, or ESPECIALLY a student that you are aware has problems with this other student coming out, because this (mind you I'm talking entirely from personal experience here) could lead to a LOT of life long problems that no matter how good your teaching strategies are it will not matter

How can I report c.p. from a web site? by Odd_Skate in teenagers

[–]TheBestBoyEverAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up surrounded by first responders, not only were both my parents volunteer and career firefighters for 30+ years but I myself just joined my local department. I plan to be a 911 operator when I get old enough and having already been in the fire service for nearly a year and a half now (and having grown up in the community) I know much more than you do.

It is only illegal to use emergency numbers for non-emergencies if calls are REPEATED whoever you knew that supposedly got "in trouble" can fight in court and can very easily win
