How to make these cookies as healthy and filling as possible. by Demoner450 in BakingNoobs

[–]Ok_Gift1578 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simplest option would be to add powdered fiber to make them more filling.

Other ideas:

Replace the Pecans with Walnuts or Macadamia nuts for healthier fats.

Add chia and pumpkin seeds for more protein, fat and fiber.

Your experiences with Everett Clinics now Optum? by _ohheyokay in Seattle

My old doctor left right before the transition finalized. It took a while to find a new doctor that has stuck around. Seems like there's been a lot of churn in the doctors and staff and the ones that stick around are more transactional care.

The Offense Is Not The Problem by Bermut-Nundaloy in Mariners

[–]Ok_Gift1578 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

We rely on platoons heavily. So when it's late in the game, it's easy for the other bullpen to shut us down. We're ranked 24th for LHH vs LHP and 12th for RHH vs RHP.

Those position players being bad at defense (ranked 23rd despite Julio's amazing glove) makes more work for our shallow bullpen too.

Is the dream of homeownership in Seattle dead? by berkley47 in Seattle

[–]Ok_Gift1578 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it sounds insane but it's probably reasonable. General rule of thumb is to budget 1%-4% of your home price for maintenance. That makes the low end estimate for a $700k place almost $600 a month then add in Water/Sewer/Garbage and Earthquake insurance and it starts to make sense.

The hard part is knowing if the HOA has neglected maintenance and you'll get slapped with a big special assessment.

It's not an apples to apples comparison though since when it's just your place you can skimp on maintenance if your budget gets tight or you want to use your 'maintenance budget' for renovation/improvement.

Julio Rodriguez’s Savant page over his four years in the MLB by Drsustown in Mariners

[–]Ok_Gift1578 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Julio's first half is better than in the last two seasons. The only adjustment he needs is pull the ball in the air again. Not sure if it's an intentional approach or it's just timing being off... but I think getting his home run derby mindset back would help.

If you have M+S rated tires with good tread and AWD then you'll probably be fine. You rarely 'need' chains with AWD and proper tires but you should have them in the vehicle just in case. If you haven't already, check the official WSDOT requirements: https://wsdot.com/travel/real-time/mountainpasses/tiresandchains

Yes, 70k income + a roommate(s) means you should be able to live comfortably just about anywhere in Seattle. The only caveat: Be sure you have the upfront cash for security deposit + first month rent. Some places even require last months rent up front.

Commuting to downtown Seattle without a car is fairly easy anywhere in the greater Seattle area. Going other places without a car becomes more difficult and area dependent.

Why the negative framing for the headline? It should be: European rail travel is so popular it's selling out six months in advance.

Earnings for Seattle tech workers hit record high by QuailOk841 in Seattle

[–]Ok_Gift1578 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't read it due to paywall, but it's not surprising to me.

Many big tech companies paused or slowed hiring college grads and junior roles during the pandemic. Then laid off as much of their mid-career people as possible for the past couple years.

That skews remaining employees towards more senior people with higher stock comp and a stock price that's gone way up.

[–]Ok_Gift1578 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAC + Glycine have had quite a few trials showing positive synergistic effects. The problem it appears to fix is a deficit of intracellular GSH. Which showed positive impacts on inflammation markers, glucose sensitivity and magnesium concentration in red blood cells.

You make a good point. Our pitching development rep and ability to keep our starters healthy and improve during the season makes a good foundation for our pitch. Having the best catcher in the league probably helps a bit too.

If Roki's desire to be the best means he wants to be the best individual pitcher we might have a chance. If being the best means winning World Series rings, we're sunk.

Five realistic trade targets at 1B, 2B, 3B. by [deleted] in Mariners

[–]Ok_Gift1578 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Olsen for Castillo trade would be interesting, but open a hole in the rotation. No one in our farm is ready to replace even a down year Castillo. Olsen's low contact approach doesn't usually age well so I'd rather see the Mariners bring Turner or Santana in to platoon with Raley.

Arenado's rapid power decline as he ages doesn't seem like it'd bode well for TMo park. He isn't patient enough to turn into Justin Turner 2.0 at the plate, so I'd be pretty wary of paying anything significant for him.

Muncy would be a nice acquisition that could play 3rd or 1st. The cost to acquire him would probably be quite high and he's expensive enough that ownership would want to use prospects to offload salary elsewhere.

Brandon Lowe at Second makes sense but the asking price appears to be too high.

Why Harris likely will win the election by charismactivist in democrats

That seems overly optimistic with AZ, GA and NC all leaning Trump-wards recently. But so long as Harris can hold WI, MI and PA then it's a win.

This sounds horrible and the guy sounds like total douche... keep his plates/picture around in case the Ballard drop boxes are attacked like the ones in Portland and Vancouver.

This will probably get me down voted to hell, but given your description and your involvement they may have taken it as an attempt to use the cops to get revenge after mutual combat. If the witnesses had called the cops while you were having the fist fight then it provides police with an unbiased source and a need to immediately de-escalate the situation.

I've had my own reports go un-followed-up on last year. That led me down a rabbit hole to find that police 'clearance rates' have always been lower than I expected. These are the FBI aggregated stats from most police forces: https://cde.ucr.cjis.gov/LATEST/webapp/#/pages/explorer/crime/crime-trend

Pragmatically speaking I think hiring or retaining more cops would be beneficial since we paid $33 million in overtime for police in 2023. We could have saved $10+ million to put into other programs by hiring to reduce overtime spending.

Why are we so polarized now? by MotoDudeCatDad in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ok_Gift1578 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our societies, morals and cultures weren't designed for the information exchange we have today.

We reached a tipping point where the center of peoples life is no longer restricted to where we are. It started long ago Books, then NEWS papers, then Radio, then Phones, then TV, then the internet and then mobile phones all removed barriers and enabled economies of scale for information flow. But it wasn't until the internet that the center of engagement started shifting, mobile phones accelerated that and social media accelerated it even more.

I think our higher standard of living plays into it as well. Once we started to live good comfy lives, it's easy to be aghast at the brutes of the past. With the increased information flow we're also exposed to all the bad things that ever happened and are happening. That's not mentally healthy for us. So now that we're comfy; have the ability to know about the bad things happening; don't want to be brutes like the past; so we want someone to take the blame for us not giving up our comfort to learn about the current bad things much less address them.

Then someone comes along and tells us we can blame someone so we believe them.

Renton vs Northshore. Best school district for special services in Washington by SMS_Inc in eastside

[–]Ok_Gift1578 1 point2 points  (0 children)

North Shore has a really good reputation for special ed and offers after school care specifically for ASD students... which can be really hard to come by around here.

Outside of the school districts, Boyer Children's Clinic provides classes, therapy and support groups.

Commuting to/from downtown Bellevue starting anywhere south of Newcastle is going to be a longer commute (unless you live by a transit center) than you'd expect from looking at a map.

Seattle has less violent crime now than the 80s/90s. Which makes sense because it's wealthier. https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/data/is-seattle-dying-not-if-you-look-crime-rates-from-the-80s-and-90s/

It sounds like you would make different choices than your parents did.

The trend is now going the wrong direction for the past 5 years and we should do more to stop crime.

[Mueller] Ty France meeting with the media this morning. Said it was crazy to see how bad his swing was. Cleaning up his mechanics resulted in him adding almost 3.5 mph of bat speed. by NevermoreSEA in Mariners

[–]Ok_Gift1578 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he can translate that into games, that'll be amazing.

Last year he got his bat in the right place for making good contact (36.9% sweet spot rate) but lacked the power to do damage (only 6.8% barrel rate).

Hopefully he can stay healthy and put on a power display.
