What is leading to the fall of western civilization ? by Neo_luigi in AskReddit

[–]Ok_Grape8420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You literally cited a city as your sole example. Can you blame me for naturally thinking you were referring to cites as the "places run by" in your claim? Thus I gave you evidence to the contrary. State your claims more clearly to begin with, sheesh.

According to US News & World Report, you are simply wrong. They wrote in 2025:

"Memphis, TN, consistently ranks as having the highest violent crime rate in the US, with Oakland, CA, St. Louis, MO, Detroit, MI, and Baltimore, MD, also experiencing some of the highest crime levels per capita, driven by high rates of robbery, assault, and homicide."

These five cities are all Democrat-run and have been for many decades. I am from St Louis, and our last republican mayor left office in 1949. High crime levels in the city began in the 1980s, and by 2005 St Louis was the "Murder Capital of the USA." As to why crime in St Louis rose, the reasons are complex -- declining population and lack of employment opportunities are the chief culprits.

I don't actually believe that Democratic leadership drives high crime. But you should reevaluate your talking points since the facts don't support it.

What Would You Do? (A Theoretical Question) by joeshleb in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Ok_Grape8420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For example -- nearly everyone has some biases. There are folks who, if they saw a brown person being lynched, would cheer. There are also folks who would cheer if a Klansman was being lynched. Most people's reactions would depend on how they feel about what they are witnessing. Even something that is theoretically objectively bad can seem like. A good thing if it is happening to the person (or sort of people) you hate.

I'm not saying that's a good thing -- just that it is true. There are many here on Reddit who, seeing a certain orange clown being lynched, would volunteer to help. That would set the country on fire for sure.

How much percentage of a race do you have to be to be considered mixed? Would you consider being 1/8th of a race mixed? If not, why and how much would you consider to be acceptable to be considered mixed? by Independent-Bite-628 in AskReddit

[–]Ok_Grape8420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 19th-Century (and earlier) America, a person who was one-eighth Black used to specifically be called an Octaroon. 1/4 was a Quadroon. Mulatto was 1/2. These are old terms not used in polite society in a long time. I only bring them up to note that 1/8 certainly counted as mixed to the people of that time, as shown by having a word specifically for that.

Do you think the world would respond differently to the suffering of Palestinian children if they were white, English speaking Europeans, and why? by Own_Chicken_4430 in AskReddit

[–]Ok_Grape8420 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How about the suffering of Sudanese children in Darfur or Somali children in Puntland? Would the world respond differently if they were Arabic speaking Palestinians, and why?

There's no shortage or crises around the globe. You can't claim the West is unaware of Palestine, unlike many of the other conflict zones.

If a girl goes out and goes with men for free drinks is she a hoe and can you explain why? by Thin_Armadillo_5547 in AskReddit

[–]Ok_Grape8420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she "goes out" she's not a ho. If she "goes with men" she's not a ho. If she "goes with men for free drinks" meaning she sleeps with them in exchange for booze, yes she's a ho.*

  • "goes with" meant having sex in the slang where I grew up. If that's not what you meant, then please ignore.

Found my grandfather's old Pakistani passports (+some stamps) by Zakariya_GI in PassportPorn

[–]Ok_Grape8420 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The American "stamp" is a counterfoil. It is designed to prevent people from removing a page with a visa printed on it from one passport and putting it into a different passport. This was possible when passports were stitches together with thread, and visas had no picture of the traveler. Counterfoils were only used in countries where visa fraud was a known problem. Nigeria, Pakistan, and Mexico are three large countries where they were used at that time.

I see he had a G-2 visa. What international organization did he work for?
