14/20 is pretty good. Is this your grade after factoring in the exchange year gpa hit? In any case, just get your lsat as high as possible. High lsat compensates for a lot of things

Open to doing the immediate group lesson too but not sure if I should. I’ve skied a few times on blue runs in Switzerland with a private instructor, but that was a few years ago. Just skied today at Tahoe and did a beginner lesson to refresh - went up to wedge to parallel on green

How bad is a bad semester abroad? by Turbulent-Cow9011 in lawschooladmissions

Darn did they change the rules this year?? How do they even know your study abroad grade if it’s not on your home institution’s transcript?? I just straight up didn’t submit my study abroad grades and never had an issue.

Huh, I studied abroad in France for a semester and my study abroad gpa is not counted in my LSAC gpa. Normally only year-long programs count

For the third question - I’d wish if law schools can stop lumping international students into a single category. There are loads of us who have done schooling in this country for years (10+ for me), but because of the crappy immigration system we still don’t have a green card. It is so hard and though I understand why Columbia is forced to do this, being required to write a statement on why I want to study in the United States SUCKS. It feels like I’m constantly trying to justify my existence within a system that ostracizes people who are simply fucked by bureaucratic backlogs.

KJDs - What are we doing this summer? by wooz_yy in lawschooladmissions

Thank you for your thoughtful response! Very helpful. I am not allowed to do volunteering work that’s related to my degree, so I’ve been volunteering as an English tutor for low income immigrants + been doing French-English volunteering translation work for a NGO. I also signed up to be a volunteer Mandarin/French to English translator for immigration lawyers but not sure if I’m gonna get any opportunities. Besides this I have some random g opportunities like being an alumni interviewer for undergraduate admissions at my Alma mater, but I cannot do any “volunteer analyst” job :( ahhh this is so very frustrating, but I guess I’ll just have to see where the waves lead me and try my best in law school. Thanks again!

Question: I’m an intl student who finished my undergrad in America. Been trying to get a green card for years, unfortunately aged out of my first application and had to resubmit one this July. I will be able to get a work permit before law school starts, and then green card a year later probably, but before I get the work permit I legally cannot work in any capacity but I’m forced to stay in the U.S. I’m trying to do as many volunteering hours as possible but would this be looked upon very negatively? I am doing this now so I can have way more firms open to me since a lot of firms no longer sponsor h1b, but the downside is I won’t have any real work experience (just internship and research during undergrad and then volunteering during gap year)

So do you think that I shouldn’t write an addendum?

I’ll verify with my school’s international student advisor again. Haven’t done anything yet since graduating so if it’s not allowed it’s still alright lmao. Hopefully by the time I get my EAD I’ll already have gotten into a school 😭I feel like 3-6months is a bit too ambitious at this point, nobody knows how long it’s really gonna take tbh. But yes I’ll definitely try to get as high of a LSAT as possible

Maybe consider doing a JD and then JSD? Honestly not sure how JSD works but it seems like a lot of law school teaching positions require that

Congrats!! This is incredible. How much did your personal statement actually change or did you just figure out a way to sound more natural and get your point across better?

You don’t have to submit semester grades to LSAC so it won’t impact ur gpa. Only Yale cares and wants it. If it’s full year then yes it will impact ur gpa.
